I just got back home from a 3 day trip to Wolf Creek. I played both courses with my family. I just have to say that both course are wonderful and very different experiences.
The Links course which is now 18 holes is a showcase of what modern minimalism looks like. The holes are shaped and bunkered in a manner that is very artful and relate to the existing landforms and created ones in a sympathetic. The course is great with the back 9 having the stronger holes from the original additional 9. But I still think that the course plays with a wonderful flow and rhythm. I also think that it is a really fun golf course with a wonderful variety of holes.
The Old course as it is now known is the first 18 at Wolf Creek. I feel is a course that needs to be played multiple times to get a feel for. I think back to decisions I made and how now I would make better choices. The greens here are a master class in use of contour to create proper angles of play. The bukering a Rod trade mark is wonderful and creates interest on every shot that they come into play. His use of the major landforms on the site is impressive and a love letter to the rolling hills around Ponoka.
I can not wait to get back to Wolf Creek and hope that everyone who loves golf gets the chance to see this gem.
