Your deam 4-ball of you plus 3 architects
« on: July 09, 2016, 06:15:27 PM »
To run in parallel with my just started top golfer dream playing partners thread how about 3 architects for you to play 18-holes with?

And where would you play and why?

Colt?
Fowler?
MacKenzie?
Simpson?
Park?
Morris?
McDonald?
Ross?
Tilly?
Maxwell?
Someone from a more modern generation?
.....

Might be an interesting battle of ego's!

Mackenzie Nicklaus and Doak played on Royal Melbourne. Because I have a twisted mind. :)

The great amateur architects wouldn't want anything to do with a working class schlub like me, and even those like Ross and Braid would probably prefer a potential client.  But it would give me great pleasure to bring together a 'student of the craft' like Ian Andrew with two very different ODGs like Thompson and Simpson on a course like Garden City and just listen to the discussion.

Oh I like this one.  Keeping with this theme Macan, Tillighast, Mingay at my home track of Inglewood Golf Club outside Seattle, played present day.  The conversation would be highly entertaining.

Donald Ross and two others at Pinehurst #2.  Mainly so we could finally find out what Ross thinks of the way the greens have evolved.

Just realised that I omitted to mention my choices in the opening post.

I would pick James Braid, Harry Colt and Herbert Fowler.

As to which course, well I'm still pondering that......perhaps Trump Aberdeen (sic!).

Why not Braid, Taylor, and Vardon? They all did courses.

EDIT. Let me choose them at Walton Heath discussing Fowler.
