Plainfield - Which Ross Courses are Most Similar
« on: June 24, 2016, 09:16:58 PM »
I played Plainfield for the first time today and I thought it was marvelous.  I have a friend there and am now looking forward to getting back.  I thought the topography was great, the green complexes interesting and fun and design outstanding

What ross courses do folks think are most similar and why?

Brookside CC in Canton, Ohio is as close as I have seen.  The property is very similar in the way it rolls across various ridges throughout an excellent routing. Additionally, the greens are strikingly similar, using not only bold contours, but also significant tilt on several holes.
New for '24: Monifieth x2, Montrose x2, Panmure, Carnoustie x3, Scotscraig, Kingsbarns, Elie, Dumbarnie, Lundin, Belvedere, The Loop x2, Forest Dunes, Arcadia Bluffs x2, Kapalua Plantation, Windsong Farm, Minikahda...

Plainfield is indeed a marvelous course. It reminds me of a classic and largely untouched Ross course in Philly, Torresdale-Frankford, now called the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale. Lot's of great rolling topography and no hole remotely the same as any other. I think that Plainfield did a more "sensitive" restoration, but I am quibbling.
