Did the ball strike the putter when it fell back? The mic in the indicates that it did.

Didn't hear that. But Johnson would KNOW that I would think.

I for one do not trust DJ in this.  His character is not exactly beyond reproach - in more ways than one.

I think the worse ruling was his line of sight debacle! Drop out of a shitty lie into a perfect lie where the tv tower was still clearly in line of sight as the ball flew straight over it! Now that's BS!

I wondered about that, too. Didn't Els get a similar line-of-sight relief ruling in 1994 that was later viewed as a bad ruling?

i was under the impression that if you took relief it had to be "total" relief. This was a case of getting a good lie to advance the ball. I blame the referee.

Phil,
The Els TV crane was ruled a temporary immoveable obstruction-and he was given relief- when it was in fact moveable.

The DJ ruling on 10 from the tower was correctly applied

Not sure why you are going so sideways here...

What you know, or think you know about any of these guys doesn't matter concerning todays situation. The fact that the USGA altered the tenor, strategy and discussion during the tournament in such a negative way is the issue. They're damned lucky they didn't get further screwed by a faltering DJ. He persevered, whether you like the guy or not.

I was just reacting to the notion that he can be presumed honest.  Lowry took it like a man. He tried to weasel out.

If any player is presumed to be dishonest, they shouldn't be in the field. I think they all start out presumed to be honest, as they should be.

Do they have to inform him if there is a penalty before he signs his scorecard?

I'm pondering what a fiasco it would be if DJ went ahead and signed before the USGA gives him a final decision. What if....?

And by going ahead and penalizing DJ, the USGA make the discussion about DJ's integrity instead of their own. Brilliant.

Did i call anyone a name?  If i recall, it was you calling out people you've never met for being dishonourable.

I'm debating whether to post a pic of my surprised face, having learned the USGA imposed the one-stroke penalty.

A total lack of testicular fortitude by the blazers.

A farce.
