Re: WTF is the USGA doing to screw up this great Open?

The group official interviewed DJ and said no penalty.  Why would the blazers change this?

Because like their leader, they know better.

Organizations, for good and ill, often take on the characteristics of their leaders. For all the angst generated on this board about this decision, it should hardly come as a surprise for an outfit led by Mr. Know it All, and Mr. I Know Better. He has been known to be not truthful at times, and to hedge on facts to fit his narrative. A ruling like this was inevitable when made by an organization led by that man.

Golf rules are stupid beyond belief. They do not use the philosophy seen in almost every other sport - the concept of "Advantage/Disadvantage".

In other sports, a foul is not typically called if the act does not put the opponent at a disadvantage.

But not in golf. No - because a golf ball moves 0.04 cm, the over-officious rules pedants almost ruined our national championship.

Poorly done USGA. Very poorly done.
