My top five:

Amana Baseball Cap from Lou Graham's brother in the 70's.
Liquid Lightning Fertilizer mesh cap from local cotton gin owner in the 70's.
Midway Shows logo cap from carnival rides owner in the 70's for installing temporary phone lines at the fair.
Madoff Securities 2002 golf outing cap displayed in my office.
LaCoste bucket hat given by a high school sweetheart for my graduation in 1976.

Mike, unfortunately I'm not 100% sure that she was aware that she was my sweetheart!  A boy can dream.

Dude.  don't be so humble.  For years all the hot girls have given their favorite jocks bucket hats with alligators on them.

I think the sure sign of a Power Logo convention is when they appear in strange places.

Like right above the right back pocket of a pair or shorts, embossed on your wedge, or embroidered into your shoes in some way.

Extra points for having golf balls with no logo, but tiny, simple block lettering that says "PINE VALLEY GC" or the like.

I mentioned my Cobbs Creek hat above. I'll soon add one from my roots:

Hyman Roth to Michael Corleone: "We're bigger than US Steel."

i think my best power logo kit is the hat with the upturned bill. (think Jespar Parnevik). NGLA on the front and Shinnecock on the underside of the bill.  I was going to add Cypress to the back but i thought that would be OTT.

It is a must have!

What does it say about all of you that you can recognize the logos?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

My wife walked out of "The Book of Mormon" on 9/11 with me and she promptly started to lecture me about the 6-8 references to other Broadway shows that are satired in the show ranging from The Lion King to The King and I. Now I can call her a "Broadway Geek" or a "Passionate Student of Broadway." Needless to say, I call her the latter when I am negotiating a round of golf set up by The Black Hand at a power logo club located on Long Island or New England.  :D

I like it when guys wear lots of logos and have lots of bag tags.  It gives me an opportunity to discuss the courses they've played and hear about their experiences and share mine.  I'm happy for people when they play great courses and I love to hear their stories and sometimes the recognition of a bag tag or a logo will start that conversation.

What great memories we all have when we play golf and play golf at great places.  It is great to have these items that will take us back to that round or that course, even for a second.  I keep my bag in my trunk and everyday when I put my work bag in the trunk I see my Merion bag tag and I smile, thinking about the great round and the great people I shared that day with.  Few things are better than seeing some other person's bag tag and hearing their stories as well.

The only logo on your golf bag should be the club you are a member of and by no means should you have more than one bag tag.  I'm ok with a logoed shirt and cap but they should not be from the same club.  I do have to admit I've got a closet full but when I put on a shirt or cap from a great golf course it reminds me of a great time I had there.  So with that in mind, I will happily rock the Rock Creek Cattle Company shirt I picked up this weekend.  The funny thing is that 99% of people will have no idea what RCCC is unless they are on this site.  ;D

What about the USGA bag tag as well as your home club bag tag? Violation?

This is certainly true, though when I ask people to guess what state the course was in, people often guess Montana.  That or Texas.

Logos from Ballyneal, Sand Hills, RCCC evoke blank stares and the question, "Have you played Augusta?"

A power logo, the power T, is headed to The Swamp tomorrow !    Maybe the Vols will win !

The only power logo that I wish had, having twice played many years ago, is the logo from  The Uncle Remus Course.

Never did find a logo as I remember, but each time,  we were in a hurry to play more golf at Cuscowilla and Hard Labor Golf Course.

Steve Shaffer is my hero.  He proudly wears his Cobbs Creek (Philly) hat.

I used to love wearing my USGA Publinx shirt from Eastmoreland (Portland), but I wore the darn thing out.  My other favorites are hats I got from caddies - one from Aronimink and one from Bandon - with Caddy/Looper displayed prominently.

John,

I've been meaning to hit this course up when I visit my parents, but always end up at Hard Labor Creek.  So, is it worth a play and if so, would you like me to get you something with the logo?

I'm heading up to CT and playing in an outing on Monday at Shuttle Meadow, which I've only played twice, both times in past editions of the same outing. I'm considering wearing the Shuttle Meadow-logoed shirt that I bought last year with the shop credit I won from last year's outing. Is that gauche or okay?

If it's okay, do I have special dispensation to wear a hat with a different club's logo on it? What about my Wintonbury Hills hat? Or a hat from the public course I play at here in FL?

I like to think I have a decent grasp of the logo rules, but this situation has me buffaloed.

I played a round with a friend a few weeks back - before he headed out West to relocate for work - he was wearing an Augusta National members logo. I sported my favourite Perranporth - but felt clearly one upped ...

Not sure "The Founder" of BBGE can live by these rules, but here goes:
  • The logo shall never ride on an electric or gas cart on a golf course.
  • When the logo is on your bag, you can stretch the "rules of golf" to make the round more enjoyable for your partners, but if you cheat your partners, you must buy them beer/coffee/gatorade/booze in exchange.
  • If you play golf at a fancy Ivy League university course, you must acknowledge that you are FRIENDS with someone from Indiana/Illinois/Kentucky (you are not really sure which state) :)
  • You have played, and you do like a Tom Fazio course.

The Barney Betterment of Golf Endowment - Friend of Barney club has been struggeling, but perhaps a comeback is in order.
