I havde never seen a "trolley" at Shinnecock. Did your information come from a magazine article? I think it was mistaken.

BCowan

Keith,

I sent Jeff a message.  That one I believe did come from an article.  Also they could be allowed in the off season perhaps.

Thanks

I'm confused by the term "allow". What authority or justification would any club have for banning them - they are a fundamental part of the game.

Many, indeed very many, private clubs in the US do not allow push/pull carts.

Correct. My club does not allow them as they would prefer someone to use a caddy.

Bidermann is in Delaware. Of course, you probably think Delaware is still part of Pa.

Fingernails on the chalkboard Dept:   There is no apostrophe in the plural of trolley.

There are probably 250 more private and high end public courses in California that allow the use of push carts.

So they are totally ok at Royal Melbourne and Sunningdale, but not at many US courses.

How strange

Yep.Those first Scots stacked those clubs with no bag-right on top of that trolley.
"fundamental part of the game"
That's nearly as provincial of a statement as an American in Myrtle Beach might say about carts.
Though I understand the need for a trolley with that chip on your shoulder.

And for the record I generally use a trolley when available or when culturally appropriate.

Josh,
That is far down the list about strange policies at many US courses.

Hazeltine National had a whole fleet of them out when I visited last September.

I used one at White Bear Yacht Club as well.

It was a Thursday and off-season.

Same with the Valley Club of Montecito.  I've seen Freddy Couples out there pushing one.

Push carts are ubiquitous in the Pacific Northwest.

I've been an avid golfer for over 30 years and have never used one. That would suggest they are not fundamental.

The list is likely so long that the better list to make would be clubs that prohibit them.
