Tony,

Thanks for posting, interesting to view the videos and ponder matters.

Some questions if I may - What's the expected duration from start to first ball hit again? Will there be a part opening (ie 9-holes then the balance?) How many guys/gals are there in the renovation team and how many are in your usual maintenance crew?

The videos (drone?) are a terrific way of highlighting what work is being done and will no doubt be a great record to have on hand in the years to come.

The music made me chuckle.........especially the early bit in video-1 with two parallel red tractors when the music could be straight from a John Wayne cowboy film with The Duke riding at the head of a wagon train! Brilliant! 😊

Every success with the renovation and for the future.

We closed on April 5th and are planning to open all 18 on November 1st. Our situation is unique. Landscapes Unlimited is installing our irrigation system and coring out our greens. Pete Dye’s guys are doing all the bunker work, grading, drainages, raising of the fairways and such. We have another contractor installing our bulkheads. An Irrigation designer, a company that is sprigging our greens and tees tops, another company for the remaining grassed areas and our maintenance staff of 20. We have also been bringing on fill via 6-8 dump trucks, 10 hours a day to raise up the fairways. 3000-3200 dump trucks in total. We also had a contractor “fraze” mow 55 acres of old turf. On any given day, we have 40-50 people on site working on this project.
The videos have been a hit with our membership and makes the documentation process very simple.

So have any of the design features changed? I see some bunkers have new shapes. But other than that? Any bunkers added or removed? Any mounds added or removed? Greens moved or with new contours?

Lot of small adjustments. Several bunker shapes have changed, we have eliminated a bunker, added a pot bunker behind #10. All the green surrounds are actually begin shaped for short grass, not just shortgrass mowed out around the greens. There are numerous humps and bump around the greens, giving them a ton of character.
#9 and #6 green will change, pulling them closer to water features or bunkers. We found that many greens had shrunk 6-8 feet since original pads were put in 30 years ago.

Tony,

I want to thank you for sharing these weekly videos.  They are fantastic ways to chronicle the progress and highlight the changes.  Granted, my lack of knowledge of Old Marsh means I do not know what hole I'm looking at from time to time, but I've enjoyed seeing the evolution the past 9 weeks.  Also, congrats on reaching the grassing stage!  No better feeling during a renovation than finally planting new turf.  Keep up the great work!

Looking forward to weeks 10 & beyond...

Thank you, MW. All of the drone work has showcased the work on the back nine. We have just begun to turn to the front 9 areas for construction.

Anthony,

Nice thread. Thanks for taking the time.

No sir. We opened up the area a bit to allow for more sunlight, so now they stand out more. The bulkhead down the length of the hole is brand new, though.

Old Marsh is a terrific golf course and Anthony is a terrific superintendent, that's always a great combination.

In that neck of the woods, the South Florida Water Management, The Lake Worth Water Management, the County and the State have a good deal of influence on managing the water.

Lot's of Chiefs to report to.

Anthony,

I look forward to playing Old Marsh this winter, it was always one of my Florida favorites
