OT Where is Clifford Roberts when you need him?

I admit to being a dinosaur but no cover under cover!

If I see one more interview conducted inside with the player wearing his idiotic baseball hat, I will scream!

Augusta National is the one place that could force good manners on people that, well, evidently …. need good manners forced on them! I get the sponsors and their contracts, but not at the expense of showing how a gentleman should comport himself.

Someone once said, '“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.” I don't think they were talking about this exact situation BUT it applies.

Yep.Cant even drink a logoed water, but that Taylormade hat indoors AOK.Greatest event in the world but has slipped in some regards.

Amen.. I seem to recall a few years ago Rickie Fowler being scolded to turn his hat around during an interview. He had put it on backwards so "people could see his face." Would seem there was a better solution...

Agreed.   Some of those guys look like NASCAR drivers.  I particularly dislike the UPS logo on a golf shirt, but I guess it worked, I noticed it.

I agree with Ran about the hat off inside.


The rest seems in need of a cleanse. Are people that distracted that they see only the trees and not the forest?


Perhaps the USGA, PGATours, R&A and other ruling bodies can legislate against excessive displays of independent contracting.


Look at Bryson. He has nothing on his hat. Ryan Moore did it a few years back (and may still be doing it. I haven't noticed lately.)

I always assumed guys had to wear their hats right after a round when interviewed as part of contract terms.

Beware...the hat indoors thing is a sensitive topic on GCA!!   ;D

P.S.  For those complaining about players covered heard to toe logos.  Are you claiming you'd turn down the massive, essentially free $$$ to put them on your gear?

   Thanks for the "heads up".  I'm all for slowing down the coarsening of society but suggesting that not removing one's hat while indoors is degrading the actual event is a bit of an overstatement.  Heaven forbid that he just forgot.

Thankfully the folks at Kingsley Club remind you if you happen to forget.  I don't find it an overstatement but a very important indicator.

I agree with Ran on this but do a double-take on his statement that they could "force good manners". 

Why because they have a tournament that everyone wants to play?  I made a mild suggestion that a private club could "teach good manners" to high school golf teams by insuring they play faster by only giving them a specific time to play the matches.  That seemed a crazy idea to a few, but IMO less crazy than telling grown men to take off their hats. 

There is clearly a race to the bottom in golf etiquette and manners at even our more prestigious clubs.

Time has passed this obligatory courtesy by. I just watched Willett in the cabin on his iPhone trying to FaceTime with his mum. He celebrated on a couch with his caddie. And yes, they both had their hats on.

It's not the hat Clifford Roberts would fix. It's the chair.  He would never have allowed the commercialism in place there today.  It loses a little more each year and eventually will be no different.  Berkman Place would have never been allowed.  The BP Ego is the problem.
