Bandon Breather

Bandon Break

Bandon Furlough

We have not built the course yet, but I don't think these names are going to reflect the finished product.

The course has the potential to be very testing:  you could turn every hole from the 3rd to the 8th into a really tough par-3, if you were including them in a regulation 18-hole course.  I doubt Mr. Keiser will want to go that direction with it.  We will just have to see how it evolves, but it's not going to be a pushover, that's for sure.

I still like Buentiempo, but "Temerity" is good too. Also, in a nod to Glengarry, Glen, Ross, "The Closer".

So I guess they would start moving sand in November?

I would call it, The Doak, as Tom has designed so many great courses  to have a course named after him like Pete Dye, RTJ, and The Good Doctor. I would rather have The Doak at Bandon Dunes than some resort in Myrtle Beach because the new course would be fast and firm with no lakes.

I am headed to Bandon in February 2017 and I am looking forward to seeing what has been built. I remember my trip back in 2011 and walking The Preserve when it was just sand greens.

Sounds like it might be a "Doak Eleven."

Two very good ones in a row. Rick - the only trouble is that there's no end point. It's just a few holes away from a "Bear's Best". John - do you mean that ironically?

No.  Heaven rhymes with eleven. It's simple and lends itself to Doak's Heaven or Heaven Eleven for the buttboys. I just can't believe I give this stuff away. Not to mention the ease of creating a logo. The only thing I ask is that the signature hole is named Doaky McDoakface just to cash in on popular culture.

Rick,

Freaking brilliant! As far as I know there's only one Doak 11 and it is in Nepal, but your suggestion is so good I'm pretty sure I'll never call this course anything but "Doak 11". :D

I suggested Doak Dunes and Bandon Dunes Junior

The Sanderling Course.  It's a small shore bird.  Looks really cute running along the sand.

This name exercise seems silly.  How about...Little, Minimal,Compact or Soupcon Dunes?  Never mind.  If Mike likes these, I can be had with some free golf.

Yes, this is silly. It reminds me of the discussion on the naming of Old Macdonald back in 2008.

I am glad that they are building a walking course rather than the a cart course out by the highway. If they wanted to bring more golfers to Bandon, they would hire Rees Jones or Fazio or Tiger to build a resort course out by the highway full of signature holes. I think this will happen once Bandon Dunes is sold to Marriott or Trump in 2030.
