Thanks for sharing. I'm happy and sad.

I do wish our old friends in Australia - Greg Ramsay, Paul Daley, etc - would start posting again. Maybe this will prompt them.

Edit: the book they sell at Barnbougle is awesome, far better than most I've seen in all respects. Many thanks to Ed Getka for buying one for me! And once upon a time, Ben Cowan-Dewar had a spectacular tour of the course. I don't know if it's still up, but I will try to find it.

I posted this thread a few years ago and was quite pleased by the lively discussion it engendered:

Your thread is equally spectacular, Kyle, thanks for the reminder. I seem to recall Ben's tour was posted on his own website, not gca, but I can't seem to find it, so perhaps it no longer exists; your thread has the added benefit of a great deal of discussion.

I often joke with people that if I ever disappear, Barnbougle is the first place to look for me.

Except I'm not really joking... :)

I've thought about this many times ... its simply my favourite of Tom's work.
It's as much about the journey as it is about the holes.

So many great choices, not all of them obvious ...
With every golf development bubble, the end was unexpected and brutal....

My reputation in Australia and New Zealand is much better than here in the U.S.  Everything we've built there has been golden, and somehow Tara Iti has lived up to the standard of the others.

The course has the most wonderful flow, the combination of very tough holes and perhaps more generously playable holes is superb.
The variation of playability from various tees is the best Inhave ever seen, from the tips a brute for anybody the supreme text, but there is a set of tees for all.
I was very impressed with the variety of green sites and fairway lines again which varied from various tee positions.
I love it and would totally endorse Arabs evaluation of a wonderful site...can't wait to return.
On top of the course, the resort itself is top notch, quality of service is superb very very friendly and magically low key

One of your absolute best course reviews, Ran.

That bit of colour behind the development and construction of the course adds a heap to my appreciation of it.

Barnbougle would be a great case for a follow up to Dream Golf. Stephen Goodwin you got some time?!

Aussies are tremendously fortunate to have it, and so much more so that its public and so agreeably priced!

It is certainly the most interesting court opinion I have read. A must read for anyone even remotely considering getting into destination golf development.

I , too, could not put it down. Like watching a slow motion train wreck. Amazing that such a wonderful course came out of such awful administration. Maybe they all happen like that but just invisibly?
