Michael Bamberger to Receive ASGCA's Donald Ross Award
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:40:21 AM »

Is there a more deserving writer surrounding the game today to receive an award that has been given to Herbert Warren Wind than Michael Bamberger?  For all that the PGA Tour and the majority of the media that covers professional golf does to limit the understanding of what makes a course and our game great, Mr. Bamberger is always at the ready to defend the old guard and seems to understand that golf is a game that should be fun.  Congratulations to Mr. Bamberger!

While Bamberger's To the Linksland didn't exactly change my life, it did point it in a different direction.

How many people in the world make over $50,000 a year writing about golf? When you consider bloggers like Stephanie Wei can there be over 1000?

To put it differently, anyone who writes about golf professionally should get an award. Most all are smart enough to do more remunerative things.

Given the point of the original post, what would that have to do with anything mentioned about Micheal Bamberger, who surely has done okay financially over his career? That said, it my experience people who go into journalism do it for reasons other than money.

BS like this is why I don't frequent this site often any longer. Why Ran, BCD and crew don't pick that up is beyond me cause I know I'm not alone.

I was probably wrong. I doubt that 100 people make a living writing about golf.

let's just hope there are more architects than writers still left out there.
