Cobbs Creek is still busy in December...

because of unusually warm weather. It's warmer in Philly now than it is here in the desert- 69 to 54:

Driving on City Line earlier this afternoon, I noticed 3 groups backed up on the Ninth tee.  This whole weekend has been terrific weather wise and many seemed to be enjoying it at Cobbs.

Good for Cobb's Creek. Philly enjoyed incredible December weather this weekend. I played rounds of golf both days in 67 and 72-degree temperatures. It was absolutely wonderful.

The crowds were likely due to the unfounded rumor that Joe Bausch was going to be in attendance there this weekend.

I know Joe isn't playing as well as he did, but I doubt he's slowed his play that much!

So are other courses in Philly:

The cool spell here in the desert isn't stopping play even though there are occasional frost delays.

And still busy in January 2016, and still in excellent shape as evidenced by some GCA-ers walking down the 18th fairway this past Saturday.

The unseasonably warm weather in the northeast even has courses as far north as the Pocono Mountains with grass growing, although many have closed for the season.   Here's a pic of the Tom Doak's "Tillinghast Course", a cool par three facility taken at dusk last evening.

Sadly Joe has eaten himself into a Grill/Raw fish stupor.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

But it's a good stupor.   ;D

I will neither confirm nor deny the rumor that said sea-creature stupor caused Joe to periodically avail himself of the passenger seat of a nearby golf cart during the round.  Although, as the photo clearly indicates, Joe was able to ambulate without assistance downhill on the finishing hole.  ;)   ;D

Looks like the clubhouse is a total loss.  I'll try to post pics later.

In retrospect, it's sadly ironic that I posted that photo yesterday of Joe and Matt strolling down 18 this past Saturday towards the now fire-destroyed clubhouse.

Perhaps, like a century ago, something grand will rise from the ashes to be re-born for the next century.

Lots of good memories hanging out in that clubhouse as a kid during golf camp. About 8 years ago I was writing a story on a state senator's charity tournament. He brought in Calvin Peete, Walter Morgan, and Charlie Owens to speak to a group of young golfers. I was the only writer in attendance and spent about an hour sitting at a table with the three of them in the clubhouse at Cobbs. Pretty cool.
