I'll be there and if there is still space available my better half/ball and chain/first wife (Josie) would be pleased join us.  We'll have to leave sharply after the golf, however, as we have an early Burns Supper to go to over the in the West of Scotland.

Let us know if this is OK

Cheers

Sorry, only just seen your post. Josie will be most welcome and happy to put you out first if that helps.

Thanks Niall

Going out 1st would be great, but if you split us up to the 1st and 2nd 4-balls that would be fine too.  As a bonus it would enable me to avoid the embarrassment of being beaten (yet again) by my wife...

See you then

All

Right folks, the full line up as below. Still space to squeeze in one more if anyone is interested.

Niall Carlton
Michael Graham
Paul Graham
Mark Pearce
Jon Wiggett
FBD
Rich Goodale
Josie Goodale
David Jones
Jon Byron
Tony Muldoon

For those interested in a tour of the museum I've arranged to meet Archie Baird at 9.30 am which should give us enough time to get round before going over to clubhouse to get ourselves ready for the round. Can those that are intending to meet up with Archie and have a look round the museum, please let me know so I know the numbers.
Finally, can I ask you to bring cash for the greenfee as I've already paid most of the cost by deposit and unfortunately I don't take cards ;)

I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning.

Looking forward to it.  Bit of a struggle for me to get there for 9.30 on a Saturday morning, so I'll pass on the museum, I think.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

No problems Mark, I'll see you over at the visitors clubhouse about 10.30ish. Forgot to say in earlier post but forecast looks reasonably favourable at 9 degrees and 16 mph wind and so far no rain forecast.

I'm in for the museum.
Let's hope the forecast is wrong. The thought of the sight of the Goodale legs is quite frightening.
See you all on Saturday.

Hi Chaps,

Just caught up with this thread.  Good idea for a Scottish gathering. I'm not sure if I can play, even if there were places available, but may try and drop in for a pre-game entertainment.

Regards,

Scott

Niall, glad to see you are touring the wee museum with Archie.  Please pass along my salutation. Had a great visit with him last May.  He's a charmer!

I'd be glad to pass on your good wishes. I spoke to Archie over the phone in setting up the visit and he certainly sounds like a character. I'm very much looking forward to meeting him and looking round the museum. How long does it take to go round, can you remember ?

It wouldn't take long to see everything, but with Archie telling stories and a couple of good jokes, we were in there for over an hour!   It was a great tour and Archie is very enthusiastic.  At ninety he still plays every week!

Should we bring something for Archie? Cash, booze, a book, an artifact of historic interest?
Cheers,

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make the inaugural Clan Gathering. Ill timed stomach surgery has put the kibosh on any golf for the next few weeks.

I hope you all have a grand day. Looking at the forecast I'm particularly jealous I won't be able to join you.

Brilliant day today, gentlemen (and lady!)
Great start at Archie's museum. What an amazing, interesting man.
Very much enjoyed Gullane #3. I had completely forgotten how good it is.
Congrats to Mr Pearce on winning the sweep.
Let's do it all again soon.
Cheers,
F.

Well that was great fun.  Many thanks to Niall for organising.  Great to catch up with friends and meet a few new faces.

A reminder too that great golf doesn't "championship" courses.  Gullane 3 is a short par 68 but with a bit of wind and greens in excellent condition for January was challenging enough and interesting enough for a really enjoyable round.  I'll play many longer, higher ranked courses this year and not have as much fun.

You bet, JJ.
Keep watching here. There'll be things appearing for summer.

Basking in the afterglow (and one or two glasses of ten year old Glenfarclas), I can't help but think about the huge number of 340, 350 and 360 yard par 4's we played today. Yet every one was different. Upwind, downwind, crosswind, uphill, downhill, straight, doglegged, you name it, there they were.
Plenty of challenge, great fun, simple, enjoyable golf. I, for one, certainly don't need anything more. Once again, thank you Gullane for restating the basics so unequivocally.

Many thanks to Niall for organising and it was great as a newbie to get to meet up with some of the locals, and a few others!!

The visit to Archie's museum was wonderful.  Archie stars in this book for those wanting to get a bit more of a Gullane fix -
