Marty, my heart pines to be there but the Melbourne sandbelt will have to suffice as the distances are too vast to cover more than once  every two years but I'm sure you'll all have fun.

Bill,
You ask "Is there a ferry.....?"

Which reminded me of the oft made trips across the Tay and the Forth during the late fifties and sixties when the ferries did run. You can just imagine the cringing, ducking and weaving that went on, by ten offspring, as my old man would play his violin to the captive audiences on deck as we wended our way to Edinburgh from Dundee. My Dad would throw his flat cap onto the deck after some Vivaldi or Mozart rendition and much to us kids astonishment Dundonians and Fifers would toss half-pennies and other copper into the hat! Dad always claimed that if we had just not denied him he would have shared the loot!

Happy Christmas to you all,

Cheers Colin

Yeah, but, ehm, we NEED credentials! Shoot, we can't just let any Edinburgh bozo into the inner sanctum without some form of credible evidence of architectural madness or overblown belief in the infallibility of some golden age numpty or details of their infatuation with crinkly edges or cross bunkering. Please have your brother provide the necessary information in triplicate signed in blood by a recognised advocate. Then we can have some fun!!!!

In.  Presumably, given the way this winter has gone, Storm Harvey will be in full force on the day.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I'll make sure he brings his 10,000 word essay on MacKenzie's bunkering as documentation.  ;D

That should suffice. (The blood doesn't have to be his own...)

All

I've booked 3 tee times starting at 11.36 am. Counting myself we have 11 players so room for another one if anyone wants to join us. I've also paid the deposit so if you could bring cash to square me up that would be appreciated. Otherwise the club accepts cards. The greenfee is £28 each. Those committed;

Michael Graham
Paul Graham
Mark Pearce
Jon Wiggett
FBD
Rich Goodale
Jim McCann
David Jones
Jon Byron
Tony Muldoon

I suggest meeting at the visitors clubhouse (across road from pro shop and first tee for Gullane 1) at 10.30 for roll and coffee. Look forward to seeing you on the day.

Cheers

Niall

ps. if anyone is interested in meeting up with Archie Baird to look round the museum either before or after the round let me know and I'll see if I can organise.

pps. Jon B - I'll email you re game on Sunday.

I'm up for a tour of the museum.

Kind offer of Leven Martin, but it's the wrong way for me.  We'll get a game there this summer sometime, I'm planning on playing rather more than last year at Elie this season.

Folks

Unfortunately Jim McCann has had to drop out with some spurious excuse about having to fly out to look at golf courses in Morocco. Don't believe a word of it but there you go  ;) .

What is does mean is there are now two more slots available if anyone wants them. Just let me know.

Sorry, what I should have written was that there is another spot available rather than two more, meaning there are two spots available in total. Hope that's clear  :-\

One of my favorite rounds was on Gullane No. 3 with my young kids on a beautiful late June evening.  I think we played 10-12 holes - enough so they got to play the straight downhill par 3 on the way back, which they loved.

Have a great time!
