I don't believe a tight driving course like Pine Valley would be interesting at all.  Jack would kill.  My choice would be Riviera because it's the one great course where neither has a history of winning.


The opposite of course being Augusta where they both have positive histories. Too cliche for me.

JK - I know I'm assuming that architecture plays a role in identifying the greats, since any 'playoff' amongst them would, for me, include only the professional grand slam winners; they'd have to have proven their ability to win the big ones on every style of course and in all conditions. Next, for the test you had in mind, I couldn't go with either The Old or with Augusta, or with any course where either Jack or Tiger won a major. I think I'd pick Paul C's course in Cabo.

I love Jack from my golf balls to my head covers and for that reason I would choose Oakmont in 1962 form.  Besides being perhaps the greatest championship venue of all time, Jack already beat Arnie in a playoff on the exact layout.

But since you have, I still stand with Pine Valley.  The penal nature would require Tiger to go more conservative off the tee and negate his massive distance advantage.

If not Pine valley, my next pick would be Pebble....Agreed, ANGC is too cliché...

They would use the equipment of the day and time the match is played.  Interestingly enough when Tiger won his first Masters in 97 many in the field were still using persimmon.  I specifically remember seeing Davis Love and Justin Leonard. 


This of course may result in differing course conditions as well even though Tiger never had any issues overseas.  I would think Jack could putt slower greens better.

The bigger question to me would be...which set of tees would you have them play from.

Tiger is used to playing long tracks, if you put Jack on a 7400+ yard track like the current Torrey Pines, it'd get in his head.

    Both are the greatest pressure putters of all time.  Lookout mtn has been voted on here toughest greens to read.  It's the perfect venue for neither has history w Raynor.  It's time Raynor is given his due.  He's been in the shadows too long....

Both at their prime drivin' and puttin'. But let's see who's really got game upstairs. That's what match play is all about. Oh, and make it best 2 of 3, and for an enormous sum of money, big enough to induce choking.

Firestone, say 1999. Jack won the PGA there, Tiger won basically everything else. The inspiring views from the blimp alone make this the easy choice.

If it was a boxing match, I think the equipment agreement would be one of the easiest parts of the contract to hammer out. The Tour's move to graphite shafts and 460cc drivers was one of the worst breaks Tiger ever got in his career.

The Old Course - a little toasted on the edges for some run - Titleist Professional balls and if not persimmon than nothing past a Titleist 975D driver technology.

Purest course for strategy and mentally dealing with uncertain outcomes. Both would feel comfortable in their primes yet also know the other feels that way as well.

once again, this is an easy one in my mind.

Let them use whatever they want and are most comfortable with...  Whether it be gear, clubs, caddy, teacher, drinks, you name it!!
