Whilst in Nola last weekend I decided to check out the GOurmets choice of Mr Doak.
Not really knowing what to expect I was delighted to play a very interesting gold course, one that is full of fun and one I can now fully understand having its place on a gourmets choice.
In a city where culinary gourmets are abound, this course fulfills all of my require to for day well spent on a golf course.
Calling this course an executive course does not do it justice, it is so much more.
By definition I suppose the presence of 12 pat threes fulfills that description, but most of these par threes are not your run of the mill, executive holes.
Two are short in the barely 100 yard distance but beyond that you are faced here with a quality set of par threes varying in distance all the way up to 240 yards.
The short ones themselves are cool little holes, with great green complexes and bunkering.
Conditioning was superb, the greens a little grainy but for this time of the year pre aerification about what one should expect of Bermuda surfaces.
Holes 9 & 18 are both risk reward par fives fun to play with super green complexes allowing for some great pin placements.
Whilst on that topic the day I played the pins were very tough, quite a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Creating such a delightful course in a limited space is indeed worthy of MR Doaks praise and one I fully endorse.
The perimeter of the course displays some marvelous houses in true southern style, some gorgeous trees , mainly beautiful, southern oaks draped in moss, simply stunning.
Stan Stopa and his staff are so accommodating I have rarely felt so welcome at a golf course, great diplomats for a facility in a city where quality of service is so paramount.
Quite simply a very enjoyable experience.
In a city I adore, it is a treat to find a golf course that matches the quality of music , food and people of the area.
