It wasn't supposed to, originally.  Mr. Dye kept adding tees back there as we went.  In fact, usually there were lots planned where he wanted to build the tees in question.  One conversation I overheard about the 12th back tee, Pete told the developer "I'll buy the lot" and the developer responded, "We already have you down for six of them."  :)

Dismal Doak crosses the entrance road, although it does not get a ton of traffic!

The back tee on the 12th at Tumble Creek plays over a small development road.

The 9th at Sebonack plays over the entrance road, and it turns out that was NOT a good idea, because it makes a mess of the logistics for a big tournament [which we never once discussed while building the course].  I was amazed they were able to work around it for the Women's Open, with all of the players and officials and caddies and TV crews and most of the gallery having to use that road to get to the rest of the course.  When someone asks me if they'll ever have the men's Open there I just roll my eyes.

Tom, what would be the approximate yardage of 9 if the tee was moved toward the back of the 8 green on top of the rise where the caddies forecaddie? Maybe it could be a par 4, and not cross the entrance road? You know for the men's opne  :D
