pace of play at Rustic?

How long can I expect a Sunday morning (say 9am) round at Rustic to take?

at least 5 hours. they send em out every 8 mins or so and it's slow b/c its public and cheap. nice golf course but don't expect to be fast. easy walk, i suggest hoofing it.

Times are spaced out every 10 minutes and I'd be willing to bet you'd finish somewhere right around 4.5 hours.  Groups start getting slower when you start teeing off at 10am or 10:30am.

I've played Rustic quite a few times, and I'm sure I've never experienced a five hour round there.  4:30 seems to be the norm.

Not sure where this is coming from... Generally agree with Jordan that it doesn't slow down until 10 or so, but even then I'd bet on right at 5 hours, not more.

So rich and exclusive courses do not suffer from slow rounds? ???

4-30 isn't slow is it? They must have 27 holes!

I heard rustic is not in good shape now. you may want to temper your expectations and/or read recent reviews from golf advisor etc. If someone is looking for a nearby alternative/add on, I played river ridge (victoria lakes) in oxnard 2 days ago and it was in great shape and is a fine layout.

Is that a near-term issue (relating to weather, aeration, or something else) or do you think it will likely still be the case in early December?

I would just be speculating if I answered that question. I would say read the Golf Advisor reviews, call the course, and maybe some of the Rustic regulars here will chime in.

I play Rustic weekly...There are no problems with conditioning, unless you dislike firm and fast conditions.  Greens are terrific, some tees were punched a few weeks ago.  However, if your idea of a perfect course is lush and green, temper your expectations.  Still the best twilight deal in America.

I'm glad to hear you say that. It was my favorite course when I lived in LA. I just based my comment on a) greenskeeper.org and golf advisor reviews, b) one of the guys I was playing with at River Ridge the other day said he used to be a regular at Rustic, but conditions were bad now, and c) the drought. I don't have first hand experience lately. Just trying to be helpful.

I played Rustic today.  Conditions were fantastic.  Irrigation to the roughs has been mostly turned off...but that's to be expected considering the drought we're in.  Greens were absolutely perfect, and the f&f is dialed in.
