I don't see an elephant buried in that green, which I've always visualized on the 4th at Spyglass.

Bill,

# 4 at Spyglass is a multi-tiered green where the tiers lower as you go to the back of the green.

What elephant or green are you talking about ?

The front is low, the back is low.  The middle is a mound big enough that a large animal, perhaps an elephant, could be buried underneath.

Bill,

Here's the 4th green.

It's not quite what you describe.

The green gets lower and lower as each tier is accessed.

As you get older your memory tends to wane. ;D

When I get to a laptop instead of my iPad, I'll show you what you are missing with a photo from behind the green.  The front of the green is flat and then goes up a slope, falling behind that slope down to the back of the green.    My last play was indeed 40 years ago, but I remember the green falling away once you were past that fairly significant mound.  You can actually see it on the webpage you posted.   Maybe that elephant mound (as I've heard it referred to) has been lowered over the years.

Bill,

My last play was a little more than 40 days ago.

The green starts high right and continuously goes lower left, vis a vis tiers.

There's a right side spine that comes out briefly.

Here's a photo that shows an up slope in front of the pin, with the rest of the green falling away.  I recall that up slope as pretty large.  Any long time Spyglass players remember if that mound has been shave since the late '70's?

Bill,

The 4th green has fall away tiers that start high right and end low left as you approach the green.

From that angle, that's the spine separating two tiers
