You mentioned Kingsley 1-2-3 and I can't argue too much with that. BUT the stretch of 14-15-16 is one of my favorite stretches anywhere. Some gripe about the difficulty of 15, but there aren't many holes that provide such satisfaction when making par. The 14th is a fun Par 5 (in a beautiful setting) where birdie should be a real possibility. Hole 16 features multiple ways to successfully play the hole and it is one of my favorite Par 3s.

Pebble Beach 6, 7, and 8. What do I win for being the first person to post the correct answer?

That would have been my answer until I played C & C's 16-17-18 at Cabot Cliffs.


The fact that the holes at Pebble and Cliffs are right on the ocean gives them a HUGE advantage over many of the other excellent entries. There are actually many similarities between these holes!


The short par 3 at Cliffs is more dramatic than Pebble and much more intimidating because you have to hit up over the water and the cliff. You miss the excitement of seeing exactly what happens to your ball, but C & C gives you THAT fun on the downhill wedge shot you'll have on your approach to the short par 4 17th. Unless you took the bold route over the water and the cliff, cutting the dogleg to have a go at the green.


Cliff's par 5 18th uses the same type of ocean cut on your second shot that you have to deal with on your drive at Pebble's #8.


And in order to eliminate Pebble, I submot that the stretch of holes has to be numbered 16-17-18! I like Pacific Dunes 16-17-18 (except 16...) but the holes are not on the water.

RND Westward Ho! 7,8 (to the proper, original green by the sea), 9 is almost impossible to beat. 12, 13, 14 at Hoylake is pretty good too, as is 15, 16, 17 at Huntercombe.

I like the Lahinch 4-6 nomination.  Prestwick's 1-3 is sort of in that vein...a bit funky.


Off the top of my head I would plop for Pennard's 9-11 stretch.  It also has 14-16 and 4-6 is damn good as well. 

The other top choice would be 4-6 Sunny New. 



What about Painswick's 9-11?


Kington has a good run in 13-15. 


Formby has 8-10. 


Beau Desert's 16-18 run is excellent...or if you like, 15-17. 


Burnham has the back breaking 12-14 run. 


A sneaky one is Worpy's 11-13 stretch, but 14-16 is quite good as well.

Some obvious and under the radar choices not mentioned previously:

Kinloch 7, 8, 9 (3 truly great holes for those that love the quirky 9th like me)
Streamsong Red 13, 14, 15 (feel a lot like 16-18 at Sand Hills, especially 14 and 15)
Whistling Straits 16, 17, 18 (not for the faint at heart, but a great finish)
Erin Hills 12, 13, 14 (3 really great holes - definitely one of the best that I have played)
Pete Dye 7, 8, 9 (and 16, 17, 18 are right there too)
Muirfield Village 10, 11, 12 (you don't have to be a Nicklaus fan to love these holes)
Streamsong Blue 16, 17, 18 (a really tough finish - kind of unlike most Doak courses)
Dormie 15, 16, 17 (another C &C course)
Old Macdonald 6, 7, 8 (very suprised that this 3some has not been mentioned)
Winged Foot East 11, 12, 13 (3 diverse holes)
Dunes Club 6, 7, 8 (I love the 8th at Dunes and the other 2 holes are really good too)
Ballyneal 15, 16, 17 (with 2, 3, 4 right there too)
Inverness 6, 7, 8 (7 and 8 are incredible)
Country Club Pepper Pike 7, 8, 9 (my local sleeper with 3 truly great holes)

I would have listed the Sand Hills and Pacific Dunes choices if not listed previously.

I'll take 7-8-9 or 16-17-18  or maybe 5-6-7 how about 18-1-2 does that count?

St Louis CC Goes Eden- Road- Punchbowl ,numbers and par are both 3, 4 and 5 ---that is great stretch of holes and 7,8 and 9 are Short- Cape and another interesting Par 5 (I think I have that routing right, its been too long)

Lawsonia 4-5-6 is pretty good -- two stout pars bracketing a good gambling half-par hole. I like it slightly better than the stretch of 7-8-9, which -- given how much I like the short par 4 8th -- is quite the concession on my part.   But I think the par 5 5th is a better hole than the par 5 9th, it's hard to argue with the virtues of the par 4 6th, and I actually like the Redan-ish par 3 4th as a test of golf over the boxcar par 3 #7.


Beverly 5-6-7 is awfully good - a real stout par 4 to begin, a downhill target par 3 where judging the wind on the Windy City's quintessential course is tricky, and the much-photographed par 5 7th with its tough uphill tee shot. Some might argue for Bev's closing stretch of 16-17-18, and in all honesty it's a tough call. Come to think of it, 11-12-13 is pretty darn good as well.

LACC (North) 6-7-8 which I like slightly better than 14-15-16


John's Island (West) 15-16-17 is pretty darn solid (as are 14-15-16).
