Another one bites the dust
« on: October 24, 2015, 11:13:35 AM »
A sad day...
...another one bites the dust.

Ben Cowan (Michigan) is walking the last mile.

Farewell, independence
Farewell, eating dinner while watching the Golf Channel
Farewell, all those late day rounds ending at the setting sun.

A wish for you for a lifetime of happiness.
The problem is that happiness just became HER definition!!!!

 8)  Congrats Ben,

Perhaps less discretionary funds going into supporting micro-breweries or was that part of the rating process?

Watching Golf Channel is nuts whether you are married or batching it.

I stopped batching it to the golf channel after Holly Sonders left.

When that's the only channel showing golf, what else do you suggest? But, most of our TV viewing in our house right now is my son's recordings of Curious George.

Not watching golf. Apart from the final round of major championships, it's insufferably boring. I'm probably in the minority on this website, but I have no idea how so many of the guys here can stand to watch so much golf-related programming.

Most of those 24-hour news channels are stuck trying to fill 24 hours of air time with about 30 minutes of material. Golf Channel is in the same boat. As I recall, Golf Channel devoted about 93 hours to McIlroy's club toss back in March.

We love Curious George by the way. He was a very good monkey and always very curious. Not sure what The Man In The Yellow Hat's deal is but he makes a good straight man.

Oh and congratulations to Ben, just so we don't go off track here. Who knows, he might need to get up on Curious George sometime soon.

Yesterday was my wife's and my 29th anniversary. We were married on the night of the famous Buckner boot.

What did I do yesterday afternoon? I played golf.

Why did I play golf? I wasn't planning to, but SHE ENCOURAGED ME TO, noting that "you don't have too many days left." (She was speaking of our impending winter ... I hope!)

Now, there's the kind of girl you need to marry!

Congratulations, Ben.

Congratulations Ben.  36 years married and playing a ton of golf.  It isn't being married that cramps the golf lifestyle (if you have chosen wisely) but when the family comes along the conflicts are constant.

I play tons of golf, my wife relaxes by watching episodes of Snapped.  It's a successful formula as we both dream of the perfect "round".

Also, encourage those girlfriend trips and nights out; its good for both of you.  It also helps with the "marriage ledger" (which needs to balance per GAAP rules). ;)

Two things to keep in mind when marrying a non golfer.

1. Tell her golf rounds last at least 6 hours so you can under promise and over deliver
2. Be patient when she asks what you guys talked about and how their kids are doing, when in reality all you talked about was club selection, architectural features, and weren't even aware your friend had another kid.
