New hole location on TOC 11th Thursday
« on: July 17, 2015, 12:32:16 PM »
I was very surprised to see the hole cut directly behind Hill bunker on Thursday. Certainly an interesting change of pace. Frankly after watching Opens from TOC for 40 years I have never seen a Pro in Hill bunker. I do remember playing with two single digit Aussies in 1989 and one of them found Hill bunker, it took him three to get out! The commentators indicated that although the other greens are stimping at 10.0 the 11th is kept at 9.5. Was this area of the 11th green, at the extreme left edge, flattened by Mr. Dawson?

Yes it is.  They could never have had a hole location there before.  It really brought Hill bunker into play.

I think Hill is the bunker where Bobby Jones hated the Old a course before he loved it.

Joel,

Your picture is worth a thousand denials that nothing fundamental to the hole has changed.
