I have information that Banks was built four courses in south America and since we have an International
and diverse group in this tree house, I am looking for anyone who has played or visited these courses.
1. The most a famous of these courses is Caracas Country Club, a very elite membership as one might expect. It is nestled about 4,000-ft in the mountains of Venezuela. I have a lot of information on this one (no thanks to the club itself). The famous clubhouse architect Clifford Wendehack did a lot of work with Raynor and Banks and he did the club house at CCC. This was a highly publicized structure and appeared in various articles as well as in the wonderful book Wendehack wrote.
Among the fine buildings he built here in the US were Winged Foot, The original Knoll c/h (nearly 2-mil at
the time) and many others. I believe he worked about 20 projects with Raynor/Banks.
I wonder if the course is still intact given the problems down there.
2. Another course in Venezuela was the Junko Country Club. There is another course there now with the same name built in the 50's (I think)
3. In Santiago, Chile there is a course called Prince of Wales Country Club - this one is pretty interesting
because apparently it is on some sort of So America pro tour or at least they have a lot of tournaments there.
A few years ago at my course there was a Kevin Brennan who worked for a corporation who had an office in Chile. He was there for a number of years and when he relocated in NJ he joined the Knoll, He was totally flabbergasted because 14 of the holes at the Knoll were so very similar to the ones at Prince of Wales. He gave me some of the info but then he faded from the face of the earth!! KEVIN ARE YOU
OUT THERE SOMEPLACE??
4. Country Club of Bogota in Colombia - I think this is long gone but who knows
Any info on these courses / clubs would be appreciated
