Trying to ascertain the quality of a golf course based on how many otherwise accomplished players finished well in a single major championship (or even a handful of majors at a place like Merion or Oakmont) is an empty exercise in my opinion. Just waaaaaaaay too much variability in how even the greatest players perform over just four rounds.

The author shows a deep misunderstanding of how contours work on a golf course but also makes a few decent points.
