I listened to his live interview on PGA Tour XMRadio after his 4th round today.  He did not come across very well.  Unless you like entitled.  Then he hit a grand slam.

Other professional athletes get fined for much less. Is there a governing body that could take action? The tour is loosing control and hurting everyone involved.

I was interested in his comment about better putters are brought back to average, while average putters are still average on these greens. I don't know if it is statistically true, but it was insightful. Is that any different than shortening a course to diminish the long bombers' advantage? Or vice versa?

Spoiled? Probably. Forthright? Absolutely. We need more of that in the mix.

It was his non verbal gestures on the course that were most offensive. A combination of violence and kabuki theater.

Horschel could have been much more eloquent, but I for one applaud him for speaking his mind.  Same with Els, Player, Garcia and numerous others.  You guys only like free speech when it's saying brown, bumpy and dead is good?  This is America, where free speech should be celebrated whether or not you agree with it.

Further, the USGA is not some pure philanthropic organization, it is clearly a business that happens to be treated as a non-profit for tax purposes.  Don't believe me?  Read their latest Form 990 thoroughly for an eye opener, and the article below about the Fox contract also illustrates the point.

Good for him!  The greens have been a joke all week. Watch the ball as it slows and dies...it pinballs between the poa.

That is poor sportsmanship.  It is like complaining about a refs call after a game, tasteless.  Did people act that way on the awful Pebble Peach greens every US open?  (hint, they had a darker green color to them)

I'm with JK.    Privileged , whiney , spoiled brat, ungrateful I could go on . Multi-millionaire from playing a game he should love and some can't even afford to play . If he thinks it thru as good as he hits it bad greens benefit guys like him .  Nobody can run the table on the greens .

Hope he's a good kid and treats others well , just having a bad moment .  We all fall off the wagon some times .

I'm all for freedom of speech , but the game has some qualities of behavior that separate it from others. Its just not the right time or place for his rant .  All done , no mas

Herschel is always a tool, win or lose. Arrested development case.

But Mike puts it succinctly. USGA is so far up their own ass it's unbelievable. A bunch of entitled cranks with virtually unlimited amounts of money to buy attention.

I've got to give the USGA credit for banning the long putter. Between it and Stevie I'm not pulling for a playoff.

I am fortunate to play two very high end difficult golf courses and NEVER enjoy the tilled fluffy bunkers , bankshots off gallerys/stands, fluffy groomed ruff, professionally raked sand etc etc and Mr. Hoerschel is peeved.

He has traded less respect for no respect and can join Paul Casey in the bar to toast to brain farts. I agree with John that his on course theatrics really show his mettle. Can't wait to see if he chooses to play St Andrews

Free speech is great, but so is class.  He failed ... as did Player.

No Mike , free speech is wonderful and should be protected at all times . Who said  we are anti free speech ?

Anti a bratty poor sport sure . He could have easily said that the greens were bad but they were the same for all of us , I'm fine with that !

So how do you feel about Ernie Els? Sometimes the truth hurts. You should expect childish behavior on a course that just needed a windmill and clown's mouth.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Honestly, I've heard lots of people use the "windmill and clowns's mouth" reference this week, and it really is the most unoriginal take imaginable.

The whack he took out of the green was disgusting to watch. I don't care who you are, pro or first timer, you don't wind up and smack your putter into the green 3 feet from the cup.

Tim , I'm ok with complaining about the conditions until the flag drops . If they don't change it , we play the same course . Most of us grind it out against our peers on less than perfect greens , bunkers et al .  Spieth , arguably the best putter out there , lost some of his edge given the conditions .

Ernie probably deserves a bitch a lot more than Horschel , he's earned it . However I still thinks its sour grapes even if its accurate .
