New Discussion Board Build Has Glitches-MINE RESOLVED
« on: June 15, 2015, 10:39:41 PM »
Ran, I am using Google Chrome (Version 43.0.2357.81 m) on a PC running Windows 7. If you check the image below, you will see that the entire gray window bar at the top is obscured by the red window bar. Without the grey window bar, navigation is made difficult.

When I tried to post this to your thread (http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,61219.0.html) I received the following error, again and again:

I had to logout 10 times before it finally logged me out. At that point, I could create a new thread. I'm going to try to comment on your thread now, to see if the cache has burped enough.

Ran good luck with this change improvements will be welcomed.

However the new look in NOT easy on the eye.

Ditto. The white  is too stark making it very difficult to read. Many forums use a light shade of grey/ blue which works well...

Why did you post this in Ran's thread and start a new thread? ::) ::)
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

I actually love the new look......the old one was sort of stale after ten years!

The karma function must not be working, or else JK would've had a "bad" and JC at least two of them!

Btw, this is clearly a renovation of the website and not a restoration -- metaphorically, the tees have been moved back and the green contours softened to accomodate today's speeds. Not surprisingly, the senior champion tour veterans are complaining; but I wouldn't dismiss those complaints out of hand. As Berhard Langer recently proved, those old guys can still play some excellent golf.

Hopefully it stays that way.

I have a question I've always wondered about, and this is probably as good of place to ask as any.

On a few other similar discussion boards, you can click on another user name and find links to recent posts, or other helpful information (of a non-personal nature).  There have been times where I remember a user making a point in a different thread, and it would be great to search by poster.  I know when you click on a user name on this site, there is a message indicating "I don't have access to all information".

Is the absence of the ability to find recent posts or threads by user name something the hosting service doesn't provide, or something that Ran and team have disabled?

There are a lot of people that don't want to be held accountable for previous posts.  That's why you see people go back and delete things.  I'd like everyone's posts to be made available.

This changed a few years ago, I believe in response to a writer pulling up old posts from Tom Doak and using them in an article  (Potentially without attribution).

When I want to read someones posts I do an advanced search for the word "a".  It pretty much covers everything.

I love, love, love the ignore feature.

Well, it appears the new format requires at least two characters for a search.  I don't know what two characters are most used together in this format.  Good luck with that.

That was part of the glitch. I was trying to add to the initial thread and could not, so I started a new thread, which didn't work. Then after the chrome update, both worked and here we are.

Joel,

Go to your profile and it is in the modify section. Saves a ton of time reading the Merion threads.

I have a few issues.

1. When I try to modify posts the photos rather than the url text shows up...meaning I cannot modify the photo.  Any ideas on how to solve this riddle?

2. When in Messages etc there is no Discussion Board choice in the heading...I have to back key...any solution to this mystery?

3. I don't have Courses By Country, IMO and that other section about Joy of Golf (or whatever its called) anymore.

You can get to those sections by first clicking on "Feature Interview" or "Contributions" at the top of this page.  Those sections haven't changed, and contain links to what you're looking for.

Yes, its not ideal as it requires at least actions, so I assume something isn't working correctly.

Anbody...how does one modify pix?

I've been having trouble posting/previewing pictures, too, Sean. The old brackets-around-img format no longer appears to work.

The links at the top of the page  - "GolfClubAtlas" and "GolfClubAtlas.com" - take you to the same place. I believe the first link should take you to the golfclubatlas.com link which is where the links to the other parts of the website are located. I'm using firefox and assume other browsers show the same links.

A bit clumsy, but click on line above picture that you want to modify and press "delete" once or twice until the pic is deleted.  Then press the "insert image" button and it will prompt you to enter the URL address of the new pic.

If you want to move the pic within the post then left click and hold while you go from above the pic to below.  That'll select the pic highlighted in blue.  Then just click and drag the pic wherever you want.

Font sizes -

Is the front size in copied reply text standardised?

If so IMO it would be preferable if any text that is copied from above in replies were automatically in a smaller front than the reply itself. The reply itself is generally more interesting than any text copied, especially text that I've probably already read anyway.

Splendid site though. Many thanks for providing.

There seems to be a glitch in using the "quote" button above the emoticons within a post.  It sometimes comes up with [qu...][/qu...] and sometimes with [/qu...][qu...]   The latter one  was typed with square brackets as {qu...}.  It substituted the {/font} {/size} for the {qu...}  Very strange. Neither of which work as expected.  The following text is also downsized with the latter.

Copying text from another post, using "ctrl c" also seems to mess up the font sizes and the text won't display in the preview screen until after you modify the text size of the whole posting.

What if I want to alter the width in the URL?  I only see a photo rather than the text.  Surely one isn't expected to delete everything and start again?
