Wow , this is hard for me . Visited Philly Cricket Sunday to play in a Golf Association team match on the Wissahickon course . They have 36 .holes., Militia Hill being the new addition. I'm a little banged up and played poorly so waited a couple days to post my reaction and make sure it wasn't because of my inept play.
The club is fabulous , they found a way to breathe new life into a great old club and the vibe is so much about golf. The members and staff were awesome , and we were treated to great food and hospitality from jump street. The young guys and older mix so well , and they are both great players and better gentleman . Whoever is steering the ship is quite exceptional . My hat is off to you all!
I've been visiting Cricket since I caddied for Tim DeBaufre and Ed Dougherty in the mid 70's in the US Open Qualifier . It's always been one of my favorite courses in Philly .
Ok , I'm ready . Great ballsy renovation , impeccable conditions , firm and fast . Drainage improvements exceptional . Kudos to all involved . I miss the quirk and believe it or not the poa! We played in high sun and there were no shadows, so I need to go back early or late in the day to really get a different look . I'm surprised I wasn't totally enamored with the new look , as I'm a big proponent of removing trees and clearing space , which they did perfectly. Something just felt too perfect, too clean . Weird I know but that's my first impression . It's got me thinking a lot.
