How golf has changed!
« on: March 21, 2015, 12:51:19 PM »
Frank Nobilo was asked to comment on why they removed much of the rough in front of the fairway bunkers at Bay Hill.  His comment was, "There was too much of a penalty for well hit drives so they wanted more balls to run into the bunker!"  :o  I love it but so much for the bunkers being hazards for these guys!

Frank Nobilo is really the poster child of brain dead architectural commentary.

You could get smashed if you took a drink every time he said "white" sand and how fair it played or "green" grass last week at Innsbruck.

I love Frank Nobilo in general, but I have to agree with you on this one, Jeff. Does anyone know if he's part of the CBS team for the Masters? I know he was named recently as Peter Oosterhuis's replacement, but I don't know if that applies to Augusta.

On a totally unrelated note, Luke Donald apparently played St. Enodoc today and called it a "gem of a links course."

But at least they have white sand and green grass so that'll work out.

Re: Donald.
We'll have made some progress when golfers, especially English ones who should know better, stop using the clarifying word "links" golf when describing "golf" on a great venue like St Enodoc.
or beter yet say "gem of a links" rather than "links course"
