Hey, I'm not clinging to any one hole, play, or score.
I remain just quite pleased with the most recent result
between the two football teams. I'm sure you enjoyed it
as well.  

As for all the rest, well, ND is to be envied, without
a doubt.  Now if only these things actually produced some RESULTS in recent times... and if only there weren't that pesky little NCAA sanction there to besmirch all this self-righteousness.

Regarding the hero Rudy, ok, with all this inside knowledge you have, you tell me:  how did Montana
feel about the man?  All I know is what I heard on the
radio here, which may or may not be true.  I also would
feel better for poor Tommy if his hero wasn't so besmirched
as they said here... Seriously, I hope it isn't true.

As for national championships, perhaps ND ought to reach the
top 10 before they think about such things.  They'll find
some interesting company there if they do.

Oh how we are going to have fun come October.  I will
when USC kicks ND's ass again, you will when you dive deeper
into the past for your glories.

More people care about Arena Football and Battle Bots than they do about Soccer.  I mean, Soccer is alright but who in this country REALLY cares?  Not many.

that my Dad went there and I grew up going to games.
My real allegiance remains to my real alma mater anyway. We
do have plenty to be proud of.  Look it up.

Fair enough.  Hey, I'm pretty much with you re
soccer.  But it's televised quite a bit and does
get a fair amount of attention.  Bottom line is any
time a school our size and with our tiny athletic
budget wins a national title in anything, it is reason
to be proud.

ND has never won a title in this sport, btw... and fields
very competitive teams year after year.  Teams that just
tend to lose to Santa Clara, that's all.

Do you do PR work?  If so, you must be damn good.  You play up the positives so well that it's hard to deny your SCU it's due for their Soccer championships.  However, Soccer still sucks.

Tom H-Do yourself a favor and learn about these supposed "violations".  Do you even know who was considered a booster?  don't you think maybe the NCAA buerucrats are perhaps a little jealous of the irish?  They also should have won their bowl game but a pesky holding call by a ACC official turned the whole game around?  

Other than your hostility and bias against the program, can you name one reason why the athletic department should not serve as a model for others.  Geez we even fired O'leary after his lying, how many schools would have done that?  We also gave Bob Davie every oppurtunity though he proved a bettr man than coach.

Only those that count, care about soccer!  I offered to take my daughter to a high school football game; a Panthers game (OK, maybe that's not football, but close); a baseball game; and a PGA tournament.  No to all of them -- "They're all boring:  the action starts and stops too much.  Can't we go see a soccer game?"

And there is the perhaps apocaphryl (how do you spell that?) tale of the girl seeing the Nike commercial with Michael Jordan and Mia Hamm and asking who the bald guy is with Mia.

Tom, to remind you again, my Dad also went to USC, and thankfully, he isn't like 90% of the people that go there. I haven't met him, but I will hopefully suggest that your Dad is the other 10% that is a decent guy, unlike the other 90% of them.

And to those of you that are in that remaining 9% (Grad students not included! hurumph, hurumph!) You have my highest respect. (Joel, Gib, Amy (an ex girlfriend who made me sit through that horrible pep rally after Notre Dame lost for the first time in like 15 years) etc............

I thought MacKenzie was the St. Louis Rams...Outstanding offensive strategy but no defense.

See now that's why this whole football comparison thing doesnt work.  Football clings to these silly lifeless fictions like treating offense and defense as seperate entities.  MacKenzie was worldly enough to realize that, in life and golf, they are always the same thing.

Plus, what's with the field?  If MacKenzie had anything to do with the sport we'd at least have some hillocks, hummocks, and furrows.

I attended one of these a couple years ago in Vegas.  Sat next to Penn and Teller.  Surely I'm embarrassed to admit such a thing but at least I have a decent excuse.  One of my good buddies who builds bicycle frames was solicited by some bay area geek to help with some of the fabrication.  There "bot" consisted of two, not one, but TWO five horsepower lawnmower engines that powered a five foot long quarter inch steel propeller weighing about fifty pounds, I swear!

I was downright frightened when they got this thing fired up in pre-game ( )  It was scary, I was quite convinced that if the propeller came off it was going to cut off someone's leg!!


The competition was scared too.  Prior to the first round match-up someone sabotaged the bot.  When it came time for the bell to ring and the bots to "get it on" nothing but  smoke poured out of the thing and the propeller hardly spun.

I still remember the name: Blue Thunder

I was under the impression that most betting operations have become organized, nationalized, and computerized.  Of course this doesnt stop a local bookie from taking advantage of neighborhood betting tendencies by bending the line a little, trying to make a little more than the vig.

But I dont bet on football, I prefer pay my tithe to David Kelly every Sabbath.
