If the principle strategy for the course is "stay below the hold and in the middle third" for every hole, how great could it be?

Of course I read Ran's profiles and I also read the profiles in two other good books as well, but I'd like to hear what you guys have t say about...including recent things, not just threads from years ago.

I'm not going too overboard reading things...

So you have read multiple course reviews, know the holes you're most looking forward to and started a thread asking about the course, but you aren't going too overboard reading things...

People often say "if you don't tlike a thread, just skim past it", and while I get their point, if we all did that the website would be full of shit like this thread.

Jay, this is somewhere between Turkey Haters Roll Call and that schmaltzy post about hugging a child in the rain under the Stars & Stripes while a pie cooled on the windowsill.

Ran asked us to think before we post. I slept on this one for two days. It is what it is and I am sure some will feel it unnecessary but IMO these are the worst kind of threads and a cancer on GCA - insincere bragfests dressed up as attempts to explore a course's qualities

Incidentally, "Jay Flemma" is an anagram of "Jammy Flea".

Scott,

You write

"Ran asked us to think before we post. I slept on this one for two days."

Sleepless nights and days then??

My thoughts exactly Scott.   Well said.

Make sure your shoe laces are tied when you step out of the car into the parking lot, the concrete is very hard
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

There is NO concrete when you step out of your car in the parking lot.

I remember getting there early and being escorted off the putting green because the putting green didn't open till 8 or something like that. I never played it when it was windy, but I hear the greens get very slick. I heard Hogan played 4 practice rounds in preparation for Augusta and on one hole, his ball landed in his own divot on all four days before.

Was that 8 o'clock a frost delay?  ::) ;) ;D

Actually, I suppose for Bermuda Grass, somewhere in high 30s to 40s might be a problem...  It just sounds funny to us snowbirds.

I got a really nice phone call today from a member of Seminole who was reading the thread with a pal of mine.  They were having such a good time, they decided to call me.  They called Seminole the best walk on the Eastern Seaboard and one of the best in the whole country.  They remarked that they felt the routing was one of Ross's strongest - they way he guided you around the property was like a story they said.  They specifically told me to "look to the east when you're on the fourth green.  It's one of the best in all of golf."

They also set the over/under on bunkers I'd end up in at 10.  ;D :D  "Everywhere you wan to hit the ball...that's where Ross put a bunker."

I'd add a layer to that bet and place the over/under for bunkers hit with putter or wedge at 3.5...as long as it's confirmed the greens are up.

« Reply #41 on: January 26, 2015, 02:02:18 PM »
So here's the results of the prop bets.  If you took the OVER on the number of bunkers I'd be in, you won - I was in 11...and one of them I took 3 to get out (the front right bunker on 13).  I had the under and lost.  The over/under # was 10.

If you took the UNDER on the number of times I'd chip or putt into a bunker, you won.  I did that ZERO times. (The number for the prop bet was 3.5).

The stats were:  the greens were stimping at 11, and we had 15 mph winds.  We had overcast skies to start, caught a five minute rain storm, then the sun came out, but it stayed breezy all day.

My favorite aspect of the course was the long ridge across the property atop which several greens are perched, the par-4s at two and 11 for example.  I also particularly enjoyed the stretch from 4-7.  The par-3s ate me alive.  That's all I'm going to say:):)  I need to work on my irons... ;D

Overall thoughts, briefly:  Such marvelous shaping, angles on approaches, and perfect greens! And yes, the overall experience was stately, refined, graceful, and camaraderous. Saw a fistful of old friends.  Also saw Tom Fazio going out as we were coming in.  Seeing the Coleman Cup with its Indian Head was amazing.  I'll write more after I get a chance to take the time to organize my notes and post some pics.

On the trip I also played Old Memorial and both Streamsongs.  We'll have threads on those soon too.

Didn't say "chip into", I said with a wedge or putter.

Regardless...the guy setting the 10.5 line is awfully good!

Not sure you're allowed to take pictures of Streamsong while playing - so unfortunately, you'll likely only get to read about it.   :'(

Here's a prop bet: Over/under on number of Flemma's insipid belt notching threads for Jan/Feb = 3.5.

I'm waiting to hear about all the wonderful architectural features he experienced and what great stories he learned about the Coleman. I mean, surely one would not ask to learn about these things merely to gloat or point out that he's belt notching.

Also still waiting to know what he shot. I had the OVER on whatever it was.  ;)
