Charles Wellford Leavitt

Charles Wellford Leavitt (1871-1928) was a South Jersey/Philly guy who was a landscape architect, urban planner, and civil engineer.  He designed a few courses according to his obituary including West Chester Biltmore Country Club and the Rumson Country Club.

He also drew the blueprint for Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Flourtown Campus golf courses, where the Wissahickon and Militia Hill courses are.  Though the blueprint doesn’t reflect the current layout, I’d like to know more about the man, his actual golf course expertise and experience, and any other interesting facts.

Big John Burnes:  a friend of mine sent along the following info.

He was a no slouch. Pass on that his name appears on plans for The Schwab Estate Course. The course is designed by Emmet, but there are detailed plans for various plantings around the perimeter of the course.  It was named Eurana which was Schwab's wife's name. It's called Immergrun today which was the name of his estate.
