Geoff Ogilvy is at it again - The Perfect Golf Course

This sounds like a description of Kingsley to me, which is probably why I like it so much and why his perspective resonates with me.

The perfect course is one where after ten years every member has the same handicap.

I think you've mentioned this before, would you mind explaining this theory?

Jason, that's pretty cool if the members at Kingsley only turn in a card at the monthly medal.

Mark, I think he's referring to the idea that a perfect course should challenge good players while accommodating weak players.

Wow!  Once he builds this perfect course, sign me up.  This sounds about ideal.  Of course, I do have one important addition -- a great men's grill, with strong drinks.  Food optional, other than some peanuts or other snacks.

I liked how Ogilvy emphasized walking to the first tee carrying one's own bag. Who could we get to join him in a made-for-TV match (2 v 2, alternate shot maybe?) where players carried their own bags and had no caddies?

Beautiful! That would have to be more interesting than Big Break 36.

It is possible to build a course that over the course of ten years that me, Rory and Garland all shoot the same scores. Infinity tees, unreadable greens and perfectly placed hazards.  Perfection don't come easy.

Haha. Don't worry JK. Dismal was right up there in my thoughts as well. In facts his discription of the greens having undulations, but not too much fits better with the Red than it does with BN. One thing that they both do very well is that you can play several rounds without getting into a bunker if that is your goal.

I think he is required to give 15 strokes a side ;)

Good old Geoff. Giving us what he thinks we want to hear. A course with very little waste or overhead. Like Augusta or Cypress Point. No rough but not too much short grass either.

Best thing is he generally plays lousy when the tour makes a rare trip to one of these courses. Plays well on the long soft narrow tracks.

Interesting that in same issue of "Golf Australia" is another article on Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes out on King Island.  Maybe Geoff may find a perfect course near the home sod.  Although playing in reasonable weather every day may be a stretch.

Is Geoff running for Mayor of GolfClubAtlas.   ;D

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Ogilvy had a Major handed to him on a silver platter. He reminds me of the welfare recipient who gets free healthcare and thinks he is a pioneer of human rights. Dear Geoff, go fuck yourself.

That's the first I've heard of a third course (a Greg Norman design) for King Island, wow!

This sounds like a description of Kingsley to me, which is probably why I like it so much and why his perspective resonates with me.

Your thoughts on the Perfect Course?...

Width off the tee? Check
Not too long? Check
Challenging approach shots? Check
Large, undulating greens that stimp around 10? Check, with some notable exceptions on short par threes and #15 with regard to green size.
Undulating fairways with a lot of uneven lies? Check
Welcoming environment with no cart girls? Check
Playable with a half set of clubs? Check.
Great match play course? Check

Where Kingsley fails Ogilvy's test is the ability to walk around with your dog on a leash. I've seen plenty of dogs at Kingsley, but they're very well behaved, and no leash is required. Sound like we need to get Mr. Ogilvy up to Northwestern Michigan.

Damn, and here I thought he won because he had the lowest score.  Silly me.
