Clifford Roberts not paying MacKenzie his full fee for ANGC has to enter the conversation.  Probably couldn't get away with that in this day and age.

Rest assured, that happened to a lot of architects in 2007-08 ... probably even a lot of the big names.

I guess today there is some recourse to be had in suing, but an architect who starts suing his clients may have trouble finding more work in future.

Not surprising. Same concept applies in the oil business. I know one crude oil terminal developer who sued a very big name company and has basically been unable to close business on any projects. He made a big mistake even if on the surface he did have a legitimate grievance.
