Second Course at Ballyneal
« on: May 12, 2011, 09:01:24 AM »
I'm surprised no one has posted the pictures Ballyneal put up of the second course on twitter. Not my pictures so I'll just supply the links.

Can anybody comment on a possible second course at Ballyneal? I found this thread from 2011 with some photos of what appears to be a staked-out second course. Who did the routing for this?

In a recent Golf Digest there was mention of a possible second course there, but I can't recall seeing anything on here about it...

Bruce Hepner was going to do the second course; he and Rupert O'Neal showed me over the land and the routing when I was at Ballyneal in 2011. But that was before the club changed hands as a result of its financial difficulties; I have heard nothing more of the proposals since that happened.

I don't know anyone at Ballyneal.  I don't even know Jim Colton.  But I saw that he did some rough plans for fun somewhere.  Would think a Colton & __________________(name the architect) would be a cool idea for that place.  Again, I have no information.

BTW, rooting equally hard for the Eric Smith masterpiece in Tennessee.

With all due respect to Jim, if the members are going to be asked for a 5 digit assessment to build the course, I hope they hire a professional architect.
