We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

All tours are welcome, yours particularly. I'm not being nasty, but note that it is the River Forth, not fourth! I'm a stickler!

Actually I believe it's the Firth of Forth.   Unless "Firth" means "river."   ;D

Yes please, Malcolm. I played Gullane No. 2 last year, but it was raining sideways, and as such I was unable to snap many photos. I loved the golf course, though.

I think you'll find that 'firth' generally means 'estuary'.

As in;

Firth of Forth
Firth of Clyde
Solway Firth

etc
etc

Yes Malcolm, I'd be very interested in seeing your photo tour.  It's been 13 years since I've been there and I'm sure your tour will recapture a couple of areas of the property I've been trying to remember accurately.

Thanks

Definitely interested Malcolm!

Have played all the Gullane courses and IMHO the  walks up and down that hill, and the views at the top,  make Gullane one of the great walking courses in the world.

Thanks for sharing and look forward to the pics.

So, after two weeks of just hanging out in the city of Edinburgh doing the festival I finally put my wife, Blair, on an aircraft back to the States.

Blair had fun!

DSCN0399 by macmalc21, on Flickr

She liked the Bier und Wein Gartens a lot!

DSCN0368 by macmalc21, on Flickr

Once she sped off on United Airlines I picked up my rental car at the EDI airport and after cleaning up back at the flat, I headed off to Gullane where I knew they had a Twilight Greens Fee of 35 quid.

A very welcoming visitors clubhouse! They are cheerfully coining money here. Even though I was paying a fraction they treated me like a king!

I had the first twilight tee time but there was not a soul behind me. "Take your time" they said, "hit as many balls as you like and practice putt as much as you want", "Just bring back y'er unused practiced balls to the starters hut" and I did.

This was my 2nd Willie Park Jr. after the very obscure Castine Golf Club in Maine, USA so I was very curious to see if there were similarities.

Malcolm, thank you.  Great tour.  Gullane's turf is hard to beat.  I love the subtle deception of the distance of the bunkers from the greens.

Very nice tour Malcolm. Many thanks for posting it.

I presume that's Craigielaw and Kilspindie across Aberlady Bay?

I wonder how many golf courses you can see from the top of this hill - N-S-E-and-W?

Correct. From the sixth (?) tee on No. 1 you can see Muirfield if you look the other way. I presume you can see No. 2 and No. 3 as well as Luffness New (which borders No 3) this side of the bay and Kilspindie and Craigielaw on the other side. Not sure if you can see anything of Longniddry beyond that, I doubt it.

Conditioning looks exceptional there.

You talking about Gullane, or Blair?

Thanks Malcolm,
This brought back fond memories of several trips to Gullane and numerous surrounding courses. Arguably one of the best concentrations of golf anywhere. My first course played in Gullane was No.1 for two quid with a junior member with whom the starter paired me.
Rounds with Archie Baird were always a treat.
Am currently helping a friend plan his first trip to Scotland and will have Gullane region high on must see list.
