Great article out today by David Oatis of the USGA on one of me favorite topics.....trees.  An excellent and extremely complete read.  Wish I could get every golfer at my club to read this.....might make our current struggles on Tree Management a bit easier.....

Excellent article.

I've put a link to it on my Facebook page and look forward to the debate in the clubhouse bar this afternoon!

This is a well written and thorough article. Every green committee should read it.
One of my favorite trees.

Thanks for sharing sent it to my greens committee. The quote from Tillinghast where he says something to the effect of when asking a committee to consider removing a tree he feels as though he would be better off asking him to go home and murder his wife is priceless. It is written from a great perspective more about architecture and how trees impact the course versus the same old turf quality sell which is valid but tired.

Oakmont is the poster child.  I haven't been there since the massive removal, but the photos of the clubhouse from the 15th green are amazing.  Wide open vistas and much better turf condition I imagine.
