I played it a few weeks ago and thought it was a wonderful old Donald Ross course. There is a major ravine running thru out the course which gives it real nice topograpy. The par 3's are all excellent. I think you will enjoy playing it.

They held a Ryder Cup their in yesteryear. Be sure to play the Ryder Cup tees, they are a combo back and next to back tees.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I too thought it was a real treat,the membership has it right and with   some more strategic tree removal it can be restored to its historical origins.

Undoubtedly, the most under-rated golf course in metro Detroit, featuring many stand-out holes, including:

--the Redan-esque par 3 second (!!!);
--the par 3 fifth, which plays over the aforementioned ravine in dramatic fashion (!!!);
--the short par 4 seventh (!);
--the par 4 13th, where there once was a dual fairway presenting a neat driving option over a diagonal creek (!!);
--the par 3 fourteenth (!); and,
--the par 5 seventeenth (!!).

Oakland Hills South is a nice treat every once in a while, but I'd prefer Plum Hollow if I had to choose to play either or, everday. In fact, there are very few other courses in the Detroit area (besides, perhaps, Franklin Hills) I'd rate higher in that category.

Properly restored, Plum Hollow should feature on Golfweek's list of 'America's Best' Classic courses, IMHO.

Mongolian,

I am Plum Hollow's club historian.  Feel free to send me an e-mail (Private message) and I will answer any questions that you may have.  Plum has hosted a Ryder Cup, Western Open and PGA Championship.  It is one of the best routings Allison ever did.  No less an authority than Ben Hogan said that the course had the best set of par threes in the entire United States.  The course has an Eden Hole, a Strategy Hole and a Redan (Lost over time).  Bill Newcomb wrecked most of the original bunker work and it had some tree overgrowth problems.  Over the last five years, we have embarked on a tree removal program and finally are generating some momentum for a full restoration.  In my extremely biased opinion, only Oakland Hills South surpasses Plum in the metro detroit area (Although Franklin Hills just hired Ron Pritchard for a restoration and he might bring that all the way to #1).
And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.

Plum Wigler second only to Oakland Hills south???  :o I have a smilar feeling towards Barton Hills, even though I know there are better courses in the area. Plum is a nice course, perhaps the third best Allison/Colt course in the metro Detroit area. :)

Barton Will's?  A little presumtuous after your second straight loss in the club championship, wouldn't you say?  ;)

A wonderful golf course.

Check it out when you get to Mo-Town!!!

Dave,
I only play well in the majors. See the results of the member-member and husband-wife.  I have too much trouble exposing my game without someone there to share the burden. Prepare yourself for the Orchards. Hope your comment means that Plum Wigler is aptly named. Perhaps they'll put in a waterfall or flower garden to remember you're fantastic play this week.  ;D Let's just hope Barton doesn't get renamed Barton Art Hills.

Shooter,

Thanks for the plug.  I am still feeling really good about it.  I take it from the post that you won the Member-Member.  Great Work!  I always know that you will win the Husband-Wife but credit that to your beautiful better half.
