Thursday, July 31 is the best day IMHO to watch, as the field will be cut to 16.  A lot of pressure.

The WGA developed an impressive program to accompany the Western Am.  Highlights include:

*   The Judge's tribute to Mike Keiser for his commitment to Evans Scholars and caddying (pg. 31 of the program itself)
*   Beverly's distinction as a city club (pg. 36)
*   History of Beverly and Ross (pg. 39) ... and Chick Evans (pg. 41)
*   Prichard's restoration (pg. 43)
*   Course tour (pg. 55)

Howard,    The program- that would be the brainchild of Terry- It turned out very good- the aerials are beautiful as are the hole descriptions. Some good historical points noted as well. Hope we see some GCAers next week.

How you guys doing on volunteers?

Is there parimutuel betting available?  8)  Seriously, a great event at a great club.  Went to the Western at Skokie a few years back and it was very well run and the caliber of play was amazing.  Might try to get out for some early morning action on Wednesday.

This is the most testing format in golf: 72 holes of stroke play, followed by four rounds of match play, all over five days. Rare is the fluke champion. Can't wait!

Does anyone know if this is going to catch any TV coverage? Chicago is a little far for me to drop by, but I know one of the guys who is playing in it and would quite like to watch if it is on.

Pat,  it looks as though we will be blessed with perfect weather- high 70's and minimal chances of rain. Will be interesting to see what the field is able to shoot - we just had a member tie the course record last week. That number, 64,  may be in jeopardy next week.

No live TV, though the WGA has fed highlights to Golf Channel for their Golf Central show the last couple of years.

Stout play by a local 18 year old who shot 63 on Wednesday to set a course record at Beverly. The previous record of 64 was set by Tom Weiskopf during the 1967 Western Open Pro-Am.

I'm going to try to make it out on Saturday. Anyone else planning to be there?

There is live scoring: http://www.thewesternamateur.com/site/c.lnKNKOOsHqE/b.5759521/k.BD46/Home.htm

Click on "live scoring" or "mobile live scoring" and you're set.

I think we'll be able to take a Chicago GCA team picture.

I'd like to congratulate GCA's own Brian Colbert for hanging in there for the first two days of the Western this week!  I know he's probably a bit down about not making the cut, but he did better than I could have by about 20 strokes!!
