Count me as one who would like to see people attempt to put something of a description of the thread in the title.

I don't think it is an unreasonable request.

Jeff,

First, you can't please everybody and in the ultimate, I'm interested in pleasing myself, first and foremost. (selfish to the core) :(

William,

It's not selfish in the least.
Do you please others before and at the expense of pleasing yourself ?
I've been more than generous with my contributions on and off this site.
Have you ?
In the last nine pages I've contributed 14 new threads, you've contributed 2.
In contributing to this site, I've got 30 contributions, you have 4.
I've hosted dozens of GCA'ers for golf.
So, tell us again, who's selfish, you or me.

"Jealousy" is a terrible thing.

I'm not a big believer in consensus management or creativity. (very sad for you and everyone else)  :'(

How is it sad ?

Pat has earned the right to post as he sees fit. His threads are almost always on topic, if perhaps a bit simplistic. His financial contributions to the site are something we should all aspire to over the next few decades. That doesn't mean you can't judge him for his fonts, his inability to construct a complete paragraph, or his general disposition. However, anyone who loves GCA should be happy to click past Pat's posts and roll their eyes at his conduct while benefiting from the generosity he has shown to this site.

As for his thread titles, a lot of them are good teasers. Others are really stupid. I choose which ones to click on based on whether or not the title piques my interest or not, as we all should. If you simply ignore the threads you find distastefully titled or unworthy of discussion, and enough people agree with you, those threads will disappear from the front page. If you give them more attention, they'll keep coming. This thread=more attention. In my head, I picture Pat printing and framing threads like this and hanging them on the walls around the chair where he spends 14 hours a day typing posts on this discussion group.

Jason,

Thanks.

Usually a thread pops into my head based upon a recent observation or experience or spontaneously.

It's the content or idea behind the thread that interests me the most, with the titles being secondary at best.

Actually, I don't spend 14 hours a day typing posts, but all 24.  I barely get a chance to eat and have lost ten pounds

I have never met Pat and never had teh pleasure of golfing with him either, but will say he is by no means selfish. He has always contributed to the Miles for Myositis charity threads that I post. Granted it is in conjunction with the ND/USC game, but Pat has never met me and has always contributed. Quite frankly, he can title his threads however he chooses. They are architecturally related and interesting to boot.

And Pat, when Baltimore Country Club reopens again next year, please visit as my guest.

Pat, are you going to let Jason get away with referring to your posts as "...perhaps a bit simplistic..."?  If so, I am shocked, I say, shocked!   ;D

All of Mucci's obvious flaws, and this is the big criticism?  You are hardly trying.

As for the thread titles, here's a tip:  Hover your cursor over the title before clicking and you can read the first few lines of his post.

It's got to be gratifying to Pat that you have sanctioned his right to post "as he sees fit". ::) Additionally the little tutorial you have provided will aide many posters in navigating the site in a more expeditious and useful manner. Thanks a million.

This is exactly my point, Pat.  In Reply #51, you outline your generosity to this website and to your guests, and I do not doubt this.  Moreover, virtually every post I have ever read on this site from people who have met you and/or played golf with you is positive.  My comment about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde hints at the appearance that you are one person in "real life" (courteous and generous), yet you have quite a different on-line persona (confrontational and dismissive).  Why the disconnect?  Which one is "real" Pat Mucci, and which is the facade?

My one round with Pat was a blast- he is a great storyteller and a terrific host. Sadly , it won't be long before his son Ryan is giving him 2 a side . And that's no knock on Pat's game.

Ok, so if I make my donations to charity public, praise my hosting of others at my home club and present some folks, who think I am tolerable in real life, then I am entitled to act like an ass here? :)

 8) Ulrich,

When you approach 35 k posts, you're going to act very naturally, unencumbered, and probably be the same!

Ulrich,

Didn't I see a recent picture of you on a golf course with your shirt untucked ?

Didn't I see a picture of you standing behind a putter that stands up by itself, and lining it up.

Do you find acting as an ass on the golf course preferable ?

Since when is starting a thread with a single word in the title section, "acting like an ass"

I'll put my conduct, on and off the golf course, against yours, any day of the week.

You can start by tucking your shirt in.

EVERYONE who has ever played with my son has commented on what a fine young man he is.

A gentleman to play with, that he conducts himself far beyond his years and that my wife and I should be very proud of him, which we are.

Ulrich,

Try not to look like a slob on the golf course.

As to "posts", the content, quality and quantity of the threads I introduce far surpasses the feeble efforts on your part.

But, I can understand why one licking their many wounds, or like a woman scorned, seeks to take some measure of revenge in the way of personal remarks.  I would expect nothing less from you.
