Viewers Vote: Next Montesano Photo Tour-REACHED 100 VOTE MAX!!
« on: November 16, 2014, 09:54:55 AM »
If you didn't vote last fortnight or if you wish to cast one more ballot, have at this one. Pick the next photo tour from the four listed courses. There have been bits and pieces done on this DG, from what I can search, but what I promise is a thorough, T2G ramble. Here's the link (and I'm not harvesting data.)

So not the Highland Links on Cape Breton Island?   That one's a treat.

Two factors conspired against me on this one...

I haven't played Highlands Links (note the "s" at the end of the first word; different from the Massachusetts version)

Saltzy #UCC already did a fine job on http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,53537.0.html

Not a lot of votes for the Golden Horseshoe--it's certainly not my favorite course, but a sentimental favorite for me since I worked/played there a lot during college

Chris, Golden Horseshoe convinced me that RTJ was capable of designing a number of GCA-approved courses. I liked Crag Burn, Cornell and Colgate, but GH confirmed that i'd no longer take him for granted.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed GH.  It's basically the course that got me interested in golf and architecture.  Lots of great holes and underrated greens in my opinion--lots of subtlety even with the tiering.  Number 2 and 17 are solid holes.

I think that what he did with the par threes in that ditch is nothing short of miraculous. Each one plays differently from the others. I feel badly that 3 plays into a gully and requires a fan to keep air moving.

Agreed--the par 3s are great.  Even with two of them playing over the same body of water, they're all different holes, not like a Medinah with the par 3s all being very similar

Didn't know that Survey Monkey restricted me to 100 votes. We have 107 and they're trying to sell me the other 7 votes via a pro plan upgrade.

Anyhoo, Teugega and PDGC are tied, with Highland not far behind. As soon as Teugega finishes (currently on hole #13) I'll move on to PDGC and then Highland Links (the one in MA-Cape Cod.)

FYI: the Stan Thompson/Ian Andrew one is called Highlands Links and is on CBI in Canada.
