2014 Open Championship - Get your Predictions in
« on: July 16, 2014, 10:59:24 AM »
While this forum continues to be mired in its post-Pinehurst refractory period, there's another major championship starting tomorrow. What are your predictions for the Open Championship? Winners, losers, props, and wild conjecture are all welcome here.

I predict Hoylake will be greener than Pinehurst.   :D

No idea who will win but I have a little action on the following  as I like to watch them play and might just have an excuse to shout on Sunday.

Bet is E/W paying out on a first 7 finish.

MCDowell           25 to 1
Stenson               16
Tom Watson    300
Oliver Fisher     250

Can’t believe I forgot Fowler, he’s fun to watch on the links.

On the final day of the Masters this year I checked my ticket and my wife asked what I was looking at

With Hoylake being much more lush than in '06 and not nearly as hard and fast is the R&A doing anything special to "protect" the course?
i.e. allowing the rough to grow in, narrowing the fairways, and making it dense enough to be penal if you're too wide.

I would think any time he takes driver out of his hands, he'll be in better shape.

I like Fowler if the wind is up.  Enjoy watching him play links golf.

In terms of predictions and speculation, what odds on delays and a very late Sun or even a Mon finish given the weather forecast?

Made my annual trip to the bookies at lunchtime for my annual bet. Picked the following;

To Win

Rose @ 14/1
Fowler @ 35/1

E/W

Donaldson @ 66/1
Ilonen @ 66/1
Karlsson @ 66/1
Gallagher @ 66/1
Lowry @ 125/1
Warren @ 150/1

If you think that is a lot, a friend of mine already has backed 20 players in some form or other and will no doubt be backing more as the tournament progresses. Of that lot I'll be surprised and a bit disappointed if Fowler isn't in the mix at the end.

As I mentioned in another thread one has to mention Justin Rose being on form. But that's a rather on-the-nose prediction and no doubt doomed.

So I'll pick Adam Scott whom no one has tipped yet. That's my safe pick.

As a dark horse I'll go with Jason Day, bad thumb, poor Open track record and all.

I must have a thing for baby faced Aussies...

RORY-RORY-RORY

now that he has dumped the woman - he has his head back in the game

Or

Justin Rose- he is hot right now

Martin Kaymer - seems to have his swing back and knows how to win a Major

RORY-RORY-RORY

now that he has dumped the woman - he has his head back in the game

Given his recent Friday struggles, you have the right number of "RORY" in that sentence. The complete tournament summary would be

RORY-WTF?-RORY-RORY

Tiger to win - under the radar as the golf channel would say! Nobody has any expectation of him to play well. Freddie Jac each way at 150/1.

Surprised that only Brent has mentioned Adam Scott so far. Number one player in the world, had one hand on the jug two years ago. A bet on him won't return much, but he sure seems like the man to beat.
