Head scratching elevation changes

Can you think of some holes featuring uphill or downhill approaches that, for some unexplainable reason and regardless of wind, don't play uphill or downhill at all?

The 2nd shot at Royal Dornoch 16th hole plays sharply up hill, but often plays much shorter than I think it will.

Old Wayne #12

All downhill par 3's where the downhill doesn't come into play (or at least as much as you'd think).

As a general rule, if you hit a high ball, the downhill won't come into play.  If you hit a lower piercing shot, you'll need to back off.

Nate,

I can't recall which holes, but during my recent Adirondack Six tour, I had a few approach shots that did precisely that. A couple went long when they were clearly uphill, while a few others that were downhill somehow came up short. Those moments, especially when you've struck the perfect approach, clarify why golf is so much beguiling fun.
