I must hasten to add that I think great credit goes to the architects - dead and alive and superintendent.  Never has a major championship golf course been presented in a way that challenges the professional while likely accomodating the rest of us.  I have now added it to my must play list, provided Mike Davis does't move the markers that day. Makes me wish I was a better golfer.

I might have caused that pine straw mashup, I trampled that very ground yesterday. But I couldn't have cared less how heavy I drug my heels, I was 50 yards off the fairway. As a sprayer I understand better than anyone, you get what you pay for.

Most surprising to me: the sand in the green side bunkers is noticeably fluffy, i,e easy.  It's the most (only) disappointing part for me; I expected hard pan around the greens which I think increases the required fairway brain-think before you pull the trigger.

So you don't want them to put sand in the bunkers or you want them to remove the bunkers altogether?

That was one of my ideas for the Olympics.  Have the women play one day from the tips, and the guys play one day from the women's championship tees.  I would love to see if the scoring was really as different as people expect it to be.

It was hard pan when I played. The caddy didn't even rake after my flailings. Since it's sand based I don't think you're going to get rid of the bunkers. I like that one side of each green is closely mown with lots of recovery options and the other side is bunkered but it should be a really hard shot, not the easy sand shots that most pros would rather be in for the consistency.
