Paul Azinger keeps pointing out that previous Opens here required pitch outs from the deep rough and wedge to the green from the fairway versus now being able to get to the green and possibly ending up in a chipping area. He suggests it may be easier. I think it will be more " golfish "

Colin Montgomery made the point a ball just missing the green in a traditional US Open would have landed and stopped in it's tracks in the semi rough requiring only a short lob wedge to the green.

This year some of the balls just missing the green roll away further from the pin leaving a choice of shots,  a long putt, chip or wedge.

In Colin's opinion far more interesting for the spectator and more demanding for the players.
