A great triumvirate for Pine Needles/Mid Pines also but I don't think that is likely to happen.

would that not change the entire dynamic/price structure at Southern Pines?

Roger, I love you man, but leave the Pines alone!!

Jeff, I'm with you and I don't even know your next thought.

What does the acquisition of National mean for Pinehurst #9 (Coore/Crenshaw)? I will accept totes-random guesses and factual information  at current exchange rates.

I loved Southern Pines and the atmosphere compared to the other courses in the area.  Not to say the atmosphere at P2, MP, & PN wasn't good, but that it had more of a smaller hometown feel.

On the topic of changes in pricing/atmosphere, in the very unlikely event Pinehurst were to acquire the course, the resort has multiple price structures.  It could be said Southern Pines at peak rates of $90 (not including the $120 they are charging the week of the Open) is more than it costs to play #1, #3, #5 as part of a package if staying at the resort.

Regarding the prospects of the Coore/Crenshaw routing out near the old Pit, at the very least it will change the name as the National has officially become Pinehurst #9.

Is the old Pit now Pinehurst #10?

The Old Pit and much of the surrounding land is simply land owned by the resort.

There have been a few routings for a course on the land in the general area, most recently by Coore/Crenshaw.

Here is a thread where Chris Buie posted a proposed Coore/Crenshaw routing.

Ron Green Jr. has an article on global golf post indicating that National in now No. 9 and No. 10 by C&C is still in the works but with no set timetable.
