Absolutely love the idea here Ran. Can't wait to see some of these articles and hopefully add some of my own.

As for some of the suggestions for what the section will be called, I like Best of Golf and Why we Golf.
2016 Highlights:  Streamsong Blue (3/17); Streamsong Red (3/17); Charles River Club (5/16); The Country Club - Brookline (5/17); Myopia Hunt Club (5/17); Fishers Island Club (5/18); Aronomink GC (10/16); Pine Valley GC (10/17); Somerset Hills CC (10/18)

Morons Not Allowed

Mike,

That would disqualify 90+ % of those on the site

 8)  I'd suggest "Tastes of Golf"

while I like soul and spirit of golf,  they're too loaded

" best of " is too pretentious, fine for golf digest and golf week covers.. not GolfCLubAtlas

what ever happened to grabbing the old AOTD pics and pruning the many course photo threads for the narrative prose challenged???

If golf needs friends and most people currently are outside of the bubble, perhaps 'Best of Golf' isn't so bad. It's strength is that it's simple and therefore inclusive whilst also requiring people to question conventional wisdom which teaches them that what they see on tour is the best.

Great though the courses are in 'Courses By Country' perhaps you could add in little joys such as Sean's reviews. Many of those courses would seem more accessible to ordinary golfers.

"Best of Golf" is, in fact, Links Magazine's tagline.

"Golf's Best" is not.

I like the idea. We are all arch guys but the OT Thread has it's place and is of interest to us diehards as we are all fans of the entire game, not just the arch.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Is "Why We Love Golf" too many letters?   I know it's too many words but maybe not too many letters.

I think the section's name needs to be 100% in line with its purpose. That purpose seems twofold to me:

1. Provide a little bit of an outlet for members of this board a little beyond the confines of golf course architecture.
2. Provide a way for golfers who may not be quite as obsessed as we are to go beneath the surface to see what other great aspects of golf they may have overlooked.

Is this a pretty fair short description?

That being the case, I think overly abstract/clever names might work against the project of the new section of the site. I'd go with something very simple, like "Golf's Greatness" or, if there's concern that "Best of Golf" is too close to LINKS Mag's "The Best of Golf," just do "Golf's Best." I would respectfully caution against going overboard on the name, if we want to attract new, less (currently, anyway) beard-pulling attention.

Can't wait to see this develop.

Shivas,
Do not waver, do not be deterred, no vacillation!

"Singin' the Praises" was a brilliant thought, a flash of genius! One of these rare occasions when I know intuitively that the right choice has been made. As you so rightly point out the phrase itself did not drip off Michael Murphy's pen in the first instance. It is a phrase used often in my circles (mainly by me mind!) but nonetheless it is a well-worn, pithy expression and not obscure at all. It may be a "….too obscure a GITK reference…" but that is only to the uninitiated. Singin' the praises goes on all the time in this world ….. look I  am singing your praises regarding your moment of truth here ….it is almost an "Ode or Accolade" by gum! I sing the praises of Golf Club Atlas at every opportunity, I sing the praises of gowf, and, admittedly, I shamelessly sing the praises of Golf in The Kingdom. This singing of praises is widespread.

It would be with unalloyed delight and joy that I would see this pearl of a phrase adorning the GCA menu bar so let us not have any backsliding. Surely my unbridled enthusiasm is worth a thousand votes!!

One last time …. in true gravity, (and may a visit to Chicago be in my stars),

Cheers Colin

A friend of mine, Bob Cullen, actually wrote a book with that exact title.
