Beechtree
Castle Harbour
Highpointe (added after someone else mentioned it)
The Pit (added after someone else mentioned it)

Back in the mid seventies I played a course in the Pinehurst complex which is either NLE or extensively redone. It had a sizeable lake on the back nine and I made my first eagle with a hole-out pitch through 20 yards of fairly densely planted pine trees.

The only other NLEs I have played are in Oregon and SW Washington -Hoyt Park P&P, West Hills, Pleasant Valley, Neahkahnie, Orenco Woods, Vancouver Lake Par 3 Challenge (in the Confidential Guide as a 1 or 0). Two soon to be NLEs scheduled for play this year - Green Mountain in Washington, and Portland's Colwood (Macan) which closes at the end of the month.

Geez,
that means that my first eagle and only hole in one are/will be NLEd

Ocean Harbour at Sunset Beach, NC.  A personal favorite because of what it could have been; nine holes on the Calabash River, nine holes on the Intercoastal Waterway.  It was never, ever in good shape but it was ALWAYS beautiful.  A missed opportunity, then and now.

The Trop and the Desert Inn, two solid old courses in Vegas.  The pit bosses could comp you.

I see some courses in this thread that I didn't know were NLE. Does anyone know where I can find a list (if one exists ) of courses that have closed in, say, the last 5 years? Has there been a thread like that on GCA?

Add Belle Terre (Rees Jones)  in Myrtle Beach to my list.

I think Myrtle Beachcourses will head the list, but maybe not with this crowd. I haven't been there in Jack Benny's supposed lifetime

I would add to the Las Vegas list by including The Dunes.  In it's place are a plethora of hotel rooms and casino space.

My NLE that you've almost certainly never heard of-

all St. Louis, Missouri

Pebble Creek
Arrowhead
Lakewood
Crystal Lake
Bahnfyre (aka Southmoor)
West Par

Mostly undistinguished 9 holers I played as a kid with the exception of Crystal Lake where I played high school district qualifiers. Good memories.

Jeepers, I can only think of one course I really liked, the 9 hole Annapolis course.  I am not sure I know of any in spirit courses, but TOC may be one of we count losing the fairway left of the Prinicpal's Nose and the narrowing of the 17th :'(  There are lots of courses which are dead in spirit, but I never played them when they zoomed.  Princes and Blackwell probably head that list.  I suspect Sandy Lodge and Worcester are nothing to what they could be.

In spirit

The Dukes, St Andrews
Both courses at St Andrews Bay
Renaissance*
Bothwell Castle

*perhaps harsh in saying its NLE in spirit since the original architect was involved in reworking it, and its probably a better course  now, but with 3 new holes and a new routing its not the original course.

Interesting that most of the above are modern courses.
