Travers US Am Repeat At Garden City
« on: May 13, 2014, 10:00:28 AM »
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle ran a series of articles -  Aug. 19th through 24th - about the upcoming 1913 US Amateur at Garden City.

Nice back to back wins for Jerome Travers, but nothing could 'match' the excitement of Francis Ouimet's US Open win that year.

No photos of the course, just drawings, some of which are at the bottom of the page so you'll have to do a little scrolling to see them all.
A sampling - the three par 3s:

Any other stretch of nine holes without a par 3, ala GCGC ?

Holes #3, 4, & 5 - The article offers some of Travers' "bits of golfing philosophy".

Thanks. These old newspaper hole drawings are fantastic.

In many cases they are the best evidence we have of older hole iterations.

I just saw Craig's old thread. Thanks for that too. I had forgotten it.

Garden City gets a lot of 'play' , at least on GCA.
