Cool photos - and I enjoyed the article quite a bit. Love Fowler's comment about using it to figure out wind direction. I was hoping for comments about why no Masters coverage. Lots of speculation but no concrete answers.

Augusta doesn't want a blimp hovering over its precious acreage. No high towers either. CBS used a high tower once, well off to the side to capture the walk up 18 from a new angle. It peeked over the treeline from the hidden-away TV compound. Never used it again.

I'm sure you're right but if that's their only position, it's illogical. Given the availability of Google Earth, and other readily availabe satellite and aerial photography, Augusta's notion that it can protect its intramural secrets, at least structural and course related items, should be discarded by the membership as fruitless. Maybe it's too much of a gimick, circus thingy. Maybe they don't like its hum. They certainly don't need the advertising revenue nor an additional sponsor.

Steve,

Love the article and photos, but having personally experienced the blimps flying overhead at various tournaments, the annoying sound that seems to take over any and all other sounds I could do without.  Doesn't The Open Championship use high altitude planes to get theirs?  I appreciate the views and the concept, but really just don't like the noise they create.  Thanks again for the article.

John,
   I'd venture it's because of:
   a) the noise;
   b) the shadow it would cast;
   c) that there's a commercial name – Goodyear or whatever – on the side;
   d) and all of the above.
   I wouldn't think the view would be a concern.
